    Sugar Adam Ali,

He was a german based fighter in the 90s that won the lineal lhw title by beating up virgil hill, and won a few other belts but would get stripped of them,, Big puncher, kinda slow,, but really good fighter for the most part,,,

Dariusz was seen as the #1 lhw, but then roy bumped up to 175, and fought mccallum for a vacant belt, and fought virgil hill like 2 years after dariusz beat him, and then fought all the other champs but Dariusz

By 2000-01 this was one of the biggest fights to be made in all of boxing, but dariusz wasnt leaving germany and roy wasnt trying to call him out on it,,,
HBO hype machine made everyone believe that roy was the top lhw even though he never fought Dariusz..
HBO had a poll around 2001 for who the fans wanted roy to fight and Dariusz was the clear winner with like 75% of the votes.. roy asked HBO to not talk about Dariusz according to the head of HBO sports at the time
There's so much more to this story. You're not even telling half of it.

But it's true, Roy had no intention of going to Germany. But his advisor Brad Jacobs, did meet numerous times with HBO's Kerry Davis to try and work something out in 2001. But Dariusz's promoter had no intentions of entering into negotiations at that point, because Roy had turned down two previous offers to fight in Germany. He wouldn't answer HBO's calls, even admitting that he was purposely ignoring them, because he was pissed. As a last resort, Davis came up with a proposal to get them on the same card in the U.S. but it was turned down flat.

If you look at Dariusz's resume, it seems clear that he was just happy to milk the WBO belt for decent money in Germany after he was stripped against Hill. Also, he beat Hill on points just 10 months prior to Roy knocking him out in 4 rounds, not two years earlier. So I guess both were to blame, but Roy was the unified champ, he'd been scarred from the 88 Olympics, and he didn't feel as though he should have been the one to travel.

Never heard, of him but I could care less about the history of the sport and only started watching 5 years ago... Shame on me.

However, I can't see a prime RJJ losing to anyone, let a lone a guy not willing to leave Germany.

They both had a good thing going in terms of making money and neither wanted to risk going to the others country. But the blame should be equally divided because Roy was unified champ, but i'm almost Positive DM was the Lineal, LHW champ.

No problem. The thing is, they both had/have huge ego's, especially Roy. It's a travesty that we never saw the fight.

Yes, I believe Dariusz was unfairly stripped. I never heard anyone discuss a neutral venue as an option. Although to be honest, I don't think Roy would have gone for it.

But that fight should have taken place.

It was one of the fights that should've happened and never did. It was similar to Roy-Joey C although that did....just way too late. Big fight with neither willing to travel and both made good money where they were fighting anyone so who's to blame no one can really say. To be honest D was a bit slow for Jones at the time in my opinion but you never know unless it plays out.

Edit : The posts got me confused on topic....Daruisz was a better fighter than Kov is currently, without much of a doubt in my opinion.
