Are you a very old person? "Great white hope" is a very old term from back when "world championship" really meant "American championship" and black guys were beating up unathletic fat Americans with desk jobs.

Once the sport went international and America reluctantly started giving Hispanic, European, etc. fighters credit, that term started to be something only elderly black "Sanford and Son" types who live in denial still use.

The "great white hope" seems to be a term used by black guys and promoters to earn more money and draw people in. People like Cooney and Morrison were horrible in the age of black American heavyweights so it was a marketing ploy. Now that the Klitschkos have been champions for 10 years, that term is definitely irrelevant.
