Of course this is what it's about. It seems nobody has remained mindful of the old saying that "boxing is local."

He is in direct competition with Pascal as far as being the #1 draw in Canada, forget being #1 in the world he isn't even the consensus champ of Canada IMO.

Wasn't Pascal the one who beat a prime, undefeated Dawson? Pascal is the one who went toe-to-toe with Froch and dropped Hopkins twice. Just fought Bute.

Forget Kovalev for a second. What has Stevenson done that Pascal hasn't?

But I can't really blame him for that. This is a business first and foremost, the fighters should absolutely try to maximize their earnings.

See man? Only "certain" fighter expected to fight the best, while wack ass paper chumps get to fight whoever and mafuuckas ak like he GOD n *****... Wonder wah that is?

If I was Pascal, I'd fight Kovalev

I think that what's happening there is way above Adonis' head... He has nothing to say -- in case he is able to elaborate a lot.

lol so predictable. I called this **** yesterday:

IF he beats Hopkins he'll fight Pascal next. Pascal shares the same promoter as Stevenson and after the little stunt they just pulled HBO isn't too happy so expect to see Pascal migrating to Showtime as well. And it will be the same exact excuses "Pascal brings more money!" All the Boxingscene accountants will justify it too saying it's a way bigger fight in Canada etc etc etc.

Of course it's predictable. Canada has a hot boxing scene at the moment, they have certain fighters who are popular draws, and there's money to be made by holding fights over there.

Sergey Kovalev by comparison can't draw flies to ****. Not because he's not talented but because he still doesn't have a big fan base.

Hell I bet even Lucian Bute could sell more seats than Kovalev right now.

Canada isn't really a boxing country. Where boxing can sell seats in Canada is pretty much limited to Montreal and Quebec City, and only with well cultivated stars. So good luck ever having a 'consensus champ' in Canada. In Toronto, even in 'Fight Bars', you'll generally see a fairly black crowd show up for a Floyd fight, and a fairly Filipino crowd for Manny, and I'm not really sure how many people would turn out for just JMM, but Chavez / Martinez was relatively sparse.

So if Adonis wants to go where the money is that's with Pascal, Bute, B-Hop in Montreal or QC. Or with Froch in the UK or Quebec. Well, unless HBO throws that much money at him to fight Kovalev (in a potential career ender). Support for boxing here is pretty thin, and would be flirting with non-existent if the Quebec scene dries up.

Compare that with hockey where it's hard to find a seat at a bar or restaurant in half the country for a Leafs vs Habs game.

It's predictable because he just pulled off one of the biggest ducks in recent times. Obviously he doesn't want to fight Kovalev so there will always be someone else to fight.

How many flies did Tavoris Cloud bring? Or Bellow?

The boxing community isn't dumb they know a good fight when it comes around.

If Stevenson goes on to fight Hopkins, Pascal, Froch, and/or Bute instead of Kovalev you really can't blame him. They are all more lucrative.
