Really just for Maravilla, but there's another possible motivation - career longevity.

I'm guessing he's got 16-20 fights left in his career, if he moves to 168 theres maybe 5 or 6 top level SMW fights to make. Maybe make that 10 with rematches etc - what then (assuming he is able to deliver all that is claimed of him) - LHW?

If he can stretch out his 160 career for another few fights (assuming he can get Maravilla in the ring and at least 1 of Sturm, Geale or Quillin) he can leave as the top man at MW and avoid having to bulk his resume out with B-tier SMWs.

Of course having fought JCC Jr at 168, any MW (possibly outside of Maravilla) is unlikely to be considered a legitimate threat.

Good, but why no re-hydration clause?

Plenty. Its boxings second most prestigerous division and there's several compiling fights out there including Sergio, Sturm, Quillin.

        This is just a moneygrabber.

Should be a fun fight. I think both fighters are overrated as they haven't had a signature win yet although this will be it for both of them. Let's see who can take a punch better than the other and stick with following his/her career after this is over, lol.

Even more than the money is the mainstream exposure a win would get him. It could turn him into a real draw with PPV potential which could help finally get Martinez, Murray, Geale in the ring with him.

Hasn't many people said Golov is going to hurt and ko Chavez? Why the false confiedence with weight penalty?

Anyone sure that Chavez didn't come in over weight when Chavez and Golov sparred?
