Fonfara+Kovalev would have paid more than just Kovalev.

Kovalev + Hopkins pays more than Fonfara + Hopkins

Plus more precious belts giving an undisputed champ

It's just that people (me included) were looking forward to seeing him and Kovalev go to war. That's why everyone is pissed and disappointed.
This is kinda it - Stevensons reasons are understandable I'm sure what he's doing is in what he considers his best financial interests and may indeed give him the best shot at the most belts and glory - but damn, after 2013 and their side-by-side KO streaks it just seemed like a fight destined to happen, and whichever fighter you favoured no-one could say this wasn't a genuine pick-em fight in which everything was up for grabs...

Maybe it could happen down the line, but it's hard to imagine recapturing this particular time when they just seem like the perfect dance partners - I just can't help feeling it'll somehow not be the same in a year or two.

Guess I'm being melodramatic but it was a fight that just seemed like it was supposed to happen - it woulda been hard to script the simultaneous and concurrent breakout year the two fighters had in 2013, and there was no fight I was looking forward to more for this year.

Don't worry Larry. As long as he keeps ducking Kovalev Stevenson will beat everyone else.

And what would just Kovalev and just Hopkins pay?

              Stevenson won't beat Hopkins

But hey, he'll be outclassed over 12 as opposed to KO'd in 4.

This is coming from someone that wants to see Kovalev get his ass busted

Not if Stevenson loses to Kovalev first. Then Adonis would just be one and done.

What will they do...set up the much awaited Dawson rematch?

                    Bingo!

Stevenson chose a bum for less money instead of a champion for more money because he was scared he might get KTFO. Doesn't get much duckier than that.
