There was no reason for Stevenson to run over to Showtime like Hopkins was Canelo or someone.

He could've done the same numbers with Kovalev that he can do with Hopkins, if not more.
Dude had very solid numbers on HBO.
And on Showtime, he's one of their bigger draws, pulling in over a million

Hopkins has also been fighting for over 25 years; I would hope he would have descent HBO Boxing After Dark numbers.

Kovalev is one of the biggest/rising boxers on HBO out right now other than GGG. I remember HBO saying Kov's number are quickly rising. It's not far fetched that Kovalev will be fighting on PPV in 2015, just give him a chance.

Hopkins is like pernell, not every fight is a PPv since they aren't huge stars like Tyson oscar, Floyd.. But with the right match ups ie Chavez, oscar, froch, Adonis they can do good numbers in PPv

Hopkins fights on regular hbo or showtime get much higher ratings than any of kovolev fights

There is not one shred of evidence or fact that shows kovolev brings more money or bigger ratings than Hopkins

That's not true. Kovalev's numbers have been rising with each and every fight. He just started fighting on HBO like last year. Can we at least give him a chance?

Again, let's not act like 40k is some reason to leave a network for a Hopkins PPV fight.

Kovalev is quickly rising on the scales with each and every outing similar to GGG. I'd say within a year or so, Stevenson-Kovalev could've done big business; possibly bigger than Hopkins-Stevenson; especially if Hopkins stinks up the place (which he's been known to do) in his next fight.

Even though Hopkins-Stevenson might be a tad bit bigger right now, if we're talking "investments"; there's no doubt in my mind, Kovalev-Stevenson has the bigger peak out of the two.

Those are excellent numbers for anybody, they are even greater numbers for a 160-175 guy.

160-175 is kinda like the black hole of PPV, if you could sell 300k+ in those weight classes then you're doing pretty good to sell yourself. Unfortunately 168-175 no longer has good A or B side partners. There's Chavez Jr and that's about it, Hopkins vs Chavez Jr would do pretty good numbers. Chavez-GGG would do decent numbers. Chavez-Froch would bomb in US, but maybe do good #'s in UK.

Right now there aren't many good combination of fighters that would do good US PPV #'s at 168-175, and hardly any at 168. Stevenson-Kov doing 200k on HBO is wishful thinking. These guys are unknown, believe it or not. No way in hell that PPV gets anything above 100k in the U.S., and i'm being generous giving it that high a cap. I suspect that the TV viewership numbers for that fight wouldn't even be a big deal either, neither would Hopkins vs Stevenson for that matter.

Kev, those 300k numbers I posted was at a minimum 7 years ago.

If we're talking contemporary numbers, 20k-50k for a Hopkins PPV is more like it.

Will people tune in to watch BHop on HBO/Showtime? Sure, he has had an amazing career and continues to do amazing things. Do people want to pay $40 or $50 to watch him wrestle, intentionally use his head in the clinch, and argue with the ref for 12 rounds? Hell no, people don't want to pay to see that ****.

The 195k with Pavlik and 150k with Jones in 2008 and 2010 respectively, shows that Hopkins vs another popular name does decent PPV #'s. Hopkins vs Chavez Jr does anywhere around 350-450k, even more if it's promoted correctly, probably tops out at 500k.

Like I said, 160-175 is a black hole, those weight classes are just not popular. Bernard Hopkins and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr are the only names at 168-175 who you can even talk about being in PPV and doing good numbers. Kov-Stevenson bombs, Hopkins-Stevenson also bombs, Ward-Hopkins/Stevenson/Kov all bomb. But Hopkins is the only good B-side up there, if you get him an A-side like Chavez Jr or Martinez, he does decent #'s.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Hopkins and Pavlik was never on PPV. Where did you get Pavlik-Hopkins 195k?

Point was, Stevenson left the network like Hopkins was a ppv STAR; not like that of someone that does "descent" numbers with the proper dance partner. Which like I said, he hasn't done descent numbers in 7 years since Winky Wright back when he was on a roll.

Dude brought like what, 1.8 million for the Pascal fight. What amazes me is that his Dawson rematch didn't tank even though we all saw the first fight
