What is the goal in boxing?

What is the true goal of modern boxing? A decision or knockout? Im not talking about an individual goal, ones goal might be to win by severely injuring the opponent, but that might not be the goal of the sport in general. Is a knockout considered a side effect, like an obstacle to the usual 12 round fight? Is this sentence correct? The fight is planned for 12 rounds, but in the process, the fighter sometimes falls as a result of blows and cannot get up, so the referee must stop the fight after counting to ten.

Exactly. To win any way you can (without being disqualified).

Most top fighters don't go looking for a KO unless way behind on points. Their objective is to win the round and if a KO comes it comes.
