  • Comments Thread For: Stacked May 3 Card Another Reminder of The Old Days

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - By rule, we old guys tend to over-romanticize the past.

Back in our day, we insist, the cars were faster, the women prettier and the food tastier.

    Or something like that.

Anyway, under further review and across all walks of life, it’s not always the case. But when it comes to boxing, it seems the “things were better in the past” approach really does hold a little more water.

We’ve all heard the gray-beards rant about the days of eight weight divisions, when champions fought several times a year and how matches between the best fighters were more common than today.

And when it came to fight cards, well… there was more to them than simply a main event. As recently as the 1980s, in fact, when I attended my first professional shows, the evenings seemed far weightier from beginning to end than is typically case on today’s made-for-TV extravaganzas. Khan-Colazo is the only decent under card fight, though Periban laying Love out will be kinda funny.

Nothing stacked about this card at all.

This Lyle dip**** has no shame. Stacked card? Almost everyone is ****ting on it in the other thread. i don't think it's that bad, but Khan Collazo doesn't make it stacked or a throwback, jeeze. Neither guy is top 10 ranked in the division FFS

If he stopped putting TMT fighters on the card and put Broner in with someone that can beat him again, then I would call it a good card.

Funny when you got that hype job in your sig. They could've added Kell Brook but he would of jammed his finger in his girlfriends couch and been forced to pull out.

Decent card but nothing awesome. The main even is a mismatch, plain and simple. Khan vs Collazo is an interesting crossroads fight. Broner's fight will be a glorified rehab assignment.

The last two Floyd events were MUCH better.
