Malignaggi hasn't fought anyone and he's had 21 fights. He should be knocking these guys out if he's gonna be a hall of famer. He could have a good career but it is far, far too early to be talking Canastota yet.

Mark my words, when Paulie steps into the ring with Cotto, he will be crushed into oblivion. This feather-fisted, overhyped kid is barking up the wrong tree.

This is a funny-ass thread. We might as well go ahead and induct Joppy and Tackie while we're at it, because that's what I see Paulie eventually being- nothing more than a tune-up to a big fight. I'm glad this thread was started as a sarcastic thread, because I've heard way too many people touting this guy this week.

Corrales last fights in order: casamayor > casamayor > freitas > castillo > castillo.

Zab wouldn't (AND COULDN'T) do that. I disagree with your perspective that Zab "risked" his career by taking Spinks II for short money (100 grand). He SALVAGED his career. He had lost and he was in the dumps career-wise. He needed to get the visibility any way he could. There was little downside for him.

This is BOXING. I don't understand how someone can say "in-ring performances are highly overrated". What else IS THERE but what you do IN THE RING?

              Diego,

I was telling folks on another thread that this kid was overly hyped and they disagreed.

              Can you believe that?

Manicotti beats Macaroni (or whatever their names are) and people are acting like it was the Thrilla in Manila. Or Louis- Schmeling. Go fig.

"too many people touting this guy" = hype.

I was talking to this guy who kept raving about Paulie Manicotti. I asked him what he thought of Joel Julio. Hadn't seen him.

Boxing is reqwarding all the wrong things nowadays. Talk, marketing and self-promotion get more credit than in-ring performances.
Good ****. Joel Julio looks great. He's yet to be truly tested at this point, but I think given the opportunity, he will rise to the occasion. Andre Ward may be over-hyped, but I think he possesses the tools necessary to become a very solid pro. He'll be ok as long as he doesn't get caught up in his own hype. Malignaggi, however, is not one of the more promising prospects that I've seen.

Castillo was dominated by Casamayor, yet he is praised for it. Castillo/Corrales was nothing more than a fixed brawl, yet is hyped all one of the greatest boxing matches of all time. Zab has faced good comp, Corley, Spinks, Tyszu. Thats as good as Corrales. Thats two undisputed champions.

Couldn't agree with you more. While Cotto has shown a few holes, I think he's the real deal. To put this guy on Miguel's level is preposterous. Cotto's biggest weakness is a questionable chin, and Paulie's is a lack of power, and questionable defense. Cotto would pummel him into submission, and I don't think it would take long. But I hear you I've been goin' back and forth with Paulie hypesters, and Klitschko groupies all day.
