Comments Thread For: Garcia-Herrera Peaks at 1.1 Million Viewers on SHO

Last Saturday’s SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast continued the flagship series’ upward ratings trend, with the main event between Unified Super Lightweight World Champion Danny Garcia and Mauricio Herrera generating a peak audience of 1.1 million viewers. Garcia’s star-power continues to rise with this appearance on SHOWTIME®, with Saturday’s bout attracting nearly 20% more viewers than his last appearance on a SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast (April 27, 2013 against Zab Judah). The Garcia vs. Herrera bout attracted an average audience of 972,000 viewers.

Can't really celebrate these ratings. Sure it might be another uptick for showtime but at the end of the day being on a smaller network is only shrinking boxing's audience. Some of those fights that have been on Showtime would have clocked in more than 2 million viewers on HBO. If Danny fought on HBO his ratings would be on par with Chavez Jr's before his loss to Sergio, instead his ratings are on par with Maidana's around 2010. I know we're meant to be thinking in terms of P4P ratings here but a smaller audience is a smaller audience.

That's amazingly good for a non cashcow fighters on Showtime. Not long ago Ward got sub 500k on the Super Six final.

That's decent for someone of Danny's supposed stature.

You have to adjust the numbers due to networks. HBO will naturally get more ratings, unless you're Canelo or Broner.

Canelo and Broner would still be getting higher ratings on HBO. If a fight does 1.4 million on ST it could have done 1.9 or 2 million on HBO. Such a waste.

            That's what I just said.

I'm saying, the only guys that will have high ratings regardless of networks are Canelo and Broner. Whereas, Danny would get a considerable push in ratings if he was with HBO.

Edit: I get what you're saying. And you're right.

Very good number, especially for a "tune up"

Those are good numbers for Showtime. There's no question that they have been improving steadily over the past couple of years.
