IMO it's the same scenario in the sense he doesn't want to go thorough all the struggles of earning another title shot. Which is surprising he would take on a guy like Maldonado instead of a serious contender unless it's a tuneup for a title shot.

having your orbital bone broken and taking a loss is a lot different then feeling you got jobbed by the judges...........trust me. also i think lucas is taking a softer touch to see how well his eye holds up (just to get his confidence back)
