Hopkins,,, he wanted 50/50... Roy was still Roy at this point so he should have gotten his 60/40 split..

Hopkins was smart to price himself out, because jones would have beaten him again, and in the process Hopkins would have vacated the mw title, which he would use to build up his name vs oscar

Roy wasnt interested in making the fight. Hopkins offered it to him but he rather take easy fights. After the mid 90s, Roy didnt take on any challenging fighters.

Most would pick Roy to win at that point in their careers too but he wasnt interested, when he finally was desperate enough for money to fight Hopkins, his reflexes were too shot to the point Hopkins could beat him.

Roy was a p4p number one fighter but he wasnt p4p biggest draw either, so 50-50 split with Hopkins and GBP was fair. Roy would have gotten a fair pay day for that one.

There was no Golden Boy at that point. 60/40 was a fair deal.

as is usually the case both men are to blame. nobody can say either of them ducked or avoided the other, just a case of two fighters disagreeing on whats fair and unwilling to concede.

roy would have made more money getting 50% of the hopkins fight than he would boxing anyone else, more recognition too despite the fact that he already beat him once. at the same time he did beat him once and was universally recognized as #1 p4p, even with all that hopkins had achieved since their first fight roy was still the man.

i think its mostly hopkins' fault though, he wasnt on even terms with roy and despite the fact that he probably deserved 45% (doesnt sound like a big difference, but its a lot of money). had he taken 40 and beat roy he could then ask for 65% to have a rubber match.

roy was already the man, he was in a position to do as he pleased, 40% is a great deal for most fighters at the time and he just didnt give hopkins credit for being more than another challenger. which is unfair, but again. just beat him and then flip it around on him.

60/40 was a fair offer. roy was P4P #1 and had a win over hopkins already. hopkins priced himself out.

Hopkins was calling for a catch weight too. Get outta here.

Golden Boy Promotions????????? There was no GBP and Jones won the first fight and deserved the greater split.
