Antonio Margarito: Not “Underrated” At All

This coming Saturday night, WBO welterweight champion Antonio Margarito will step into the ring at the Aladdin Hotel Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, and attempt the sixth defense of his title by taking on tough and rugged Mexican knockout artist Manuel “*******” Gomez. It is a fight that, despite what most of the boxing media outlets and fans alike are saying, is not a “sure win” for Margarito, as Gomez is as tough and hard as the day is long, and he has that great boxing equalizer: punching power.

I'd use the word, "unproven". Arum claims Margarito hasn't fought anyone huge because the marque players don't want to have anything to do with him. True or not, fans still have to see more of Margarito, although I like many of what I've seen so far.

He cannot be both "avoided" and "under-rated". A fighter whose talents and skills are not widely respected so as to be under-rated cannot be feared and avoided.

For the nonce I give Antonio the benefit of the doubt.

KO wins over Cintron and Lewis is hardly anything worth my attention. Cintron was untested and Lewis was already damaged goods after Mayorga got through with him. I see absolutely nothing special about the dude.

I see many parrallels between the two fighters, but Castillo is MUCH better with better attributes too (chin, skill, etc).

Margarito is right about where he should be.

He's a tough guy with good overall strength and a devilish workrate late in fights. He has beaten some solid guys like Cintron and Lewis, but has also struggled with guys like Santos.

I haven't seen Clottey fight before. Why do you think he'd beat Margy? I have actually seen you post that you think he'd beat him.
