  • Comments Thread For: Freddie Roach To Train Glen Tapia; Start Camp 4/14

Freddie Roach has agreed to train junior middleweight contender Glen Tapia after they worked together the past few days at Roach’s Wild Card Boxing Gym in Hollywood, Calif.

Roach and Tapia first bonded when Tapia served in the Philippines as Manny Pacquiao’s primary sparring partner prior to the Filipino superstar’s win over Antonio Margarito in November 2010.

Glen has skills man, its a shame Roach didn't get to train him before he lost to Kirkland. Tapia's trainers gave him the wrong advice in that fight, Glen was too loyal to his old coaches.

They should move Tapia to 160. He's a giant at 154. Could be hurting his stamina

Hopefully under Roach, Tapia will sit on his punches more. The guy is big, and he has no real power. He reminds me of tim bradley both guys when you look at them you think they are bombers but they can't really bust a g**** with one punch.

If Roach can get Tapia to really commit to punches he can be a beast.

Good for Tapia.. The Kirkland fight was horrendous, Tapia's old corner was a ****ing disgrace!

Good news, but I fear that Roach is one beating too late . Angulo hasnt really been the same since Kirkland beat the hell out of him, and Tapia may have taken an even worse pummeling.

Yeah, Tapia thought he could KO Kirkland because they were filling his head prior to the fight that the guy gets knocked out by a feather touching his chin. Kirkland showed crazy punch resistance in there, Tapia punched himself out and gassed out, he could have easily beat Kirkland if he just boxed and sat down on his power shots. Roach likes to have his fighters throw a few soft touches and follow it up with a hard loaded power shot, that confuses the opponent because when you throw a very soft jab or flicking jab it makes them expect a soft punch but leaves them unprepared for a power shot.

Tapia's team was horrible, but that is what Tapia gets he wanted to stay loyal. He had to lose to realize it, Roach wanted to train him 3 years ago, but Tapia declined the offer.

This is great news, I think its a very good fit. Put it this way it can't be a worse fit than his old corner, that was among some of the worst corner work I've ever seen.

I like Glen and still think he can have a bright future with a good team around him. He needs to sort his stamina out big time though & stop trying so hard too be a crowd pleaser. No need he does have good boxing ability.
He is a fighter whose balls are too big for his own good at times.

I agree he's most likely done after that extended beating he took.
