First off - none of these latin ethnicities hate each other - that's so juvenile. Amongst sports, it's just a friendly rivalry. Out in the real world - everyone is humble and cares for their fellow latino/a. I'm Puerto Rican, but I love my mexican brothers and sisters all the same. Sports - it's easier to root for something/someone you have some sort of intrinsic fellowship for. You follow the sports team (typically) that best represents your hometown (e.g. if you live in Pittsburg, chances are high you are a fan of the Steelers)
So when rooting for a fighter in boxing, it's natural to root for someone that close to you at a basic level, so since boxing doesn't have a locality about it per se, ethnic background plays a huge part. Nothing wrong with. In a classic P.R vs Mexico fight, I will ride for my Rican brother, unless it's JuanMa - I enjoy seeing that guy get pummeled every fight, and I'll always ride with Erik Morales, my fav Mexican warrior of all time.
It's just sports - we don't hate eachother
Unless you're Dominican - then forget everything I just said

One thing for sure is that Cotto is a warrior and he has paid his dues. He is able to call his own shots now in his career.

Seeing fighters in Puerto Rico is common. Felix Trinidad is from Cupei Alto which is the neighborhood next to Caimito Alto where my family is from and he's there always with his family hanging out. Cotto and Juanma are from Caguas and you will see them around the area. Don't get mad brother because I posted what my cousins told me haha
