ESPN Going big

Didn't know they were picking up Areola vs. Stiverne that's kinda crazy. I'm lovin it though, this could be huge for the sport. NBC sports, Fox Sports 1 and now more exposure on ESPN. Boxing is definetely not dead, it's having a resurgence.Comment

Is HBO phasing out boxing or something? They barely have anything except PPV this year. Why wouldn't they want to air the crowning of the next heavyweight world champion? And possibly an American one at that. The first fight was great. They seriously couldn't oubid ESPN's 500k? I'm glad this will be on ESPN, but what the hell is HBO doing?Comment

Whats the date of the fight between stiverne arreola?this is great news for usa boxing fans that espn is going big with boxing now. Not only did they land stiverne arreola but its on espn 1 not 2 its not friday night fights and its on a saturday night they then said they want to have 3 or 4 big fights a year. if this happens this is huge news if anyone can take boxing to the next level its espn and they are known to work with everyone which is key. maybe im over reacting but espn having a plan to enter the A side of boxing is huge for the business and it will grow big time when espn is pushing it. if they get the rating those 4 fights will turn into 8 just having another network not tight down by politics is huge. plus they will go all out with cameras and all that anyone who knows espn knows if they go all in on something it will be big and be advertised and hyped every whereComment

The quickest hands in this fight will be the guy responsible for bleeping Arreola during his post-fight interview.
btw good news. I remember them putting on the rare Saturday fight..and then that one time they put on a PPV with Marg-Cinton and Mosley-Estrada, calvin brock.Comment

ya but if they did that then they would end up being like any other promotion they just have a channel would be the same i think this way is better as long as they do business with everyone. Here is where i read about it if anyone is wondering http://espn.go.com/blog/Dan-Rafael/p...-lands-on-espnin theory,
networks like espn, showtime, hbo can basically eliminate promoters if they wanted to.
Networks in essence are basically fight promoters. They already have the power to show fights. All they basically need is a boxing promoter's license and sign fighters themselves. They can promote the fighters non stop in their network along with their sister networks in far greater fashion and capability than an Arum with top rank or oscar with Golden Boy.
They have the bigger bank to sign fighters to bonuses that arum and oscar cant match. They have the power to show fights. There's really no need for boxing promoters.
ESPN, showtime, HBO can put Arum and Golden Boy Promotions out of business if they wanted to.
I dont see why they havent done this yet.Comment

An Arreola fight is considered "going big"? He's been an ESPN level fighter all along. NBC Sports/Versus has Arreola's daddy in Adamek, so I fail to see how this is some sort of big news.Comment
