Im going tell all of you guys how it is... This is going to be an interesting fight because Martinez has always relied on his legs in every fight. His style is to stick and move. He has awkward footwork that throw fighters off because he comes from every angle and is always dancing around the ring. This is probably the reason why he's knee's are shot now. Lots of jumping up and down and lateral movement puts an incredible amount of strain on the knees. I know cause I've a my knee complete reconstructed (ACL and Meniscus repair) with two screws. Once you have knee surgery, your movement will never be the same. Your knees will never be the same. You will be reluctant to execute those crazy move that you used to do out of fear that you injure the knee again.

Cotto is a small compact middle weight. I think Freddy Roach's strategy will be for Cotto to come in on Martinez real close so he won't give Martinez room for those power shots and work the body hard. Left hooks to the liver all night. Cotto has to stay compact and fully focus on the body. Martinez won't be able to stick and move like he used to therefore it will be an ugly upclose type fight. Despite of Martinez size, I give Cotto a good chance.

Cotto will come in strong at 159 where Martinez will be slightly drained. You combine Martinez being slightly drained at 159 with his age (40) and knee injuries with a Cotto that is full of confidence, Roach by his side and comfortable weight and you have a pretty good fight in your hands... Its going to be competitive....

I think if he shows that he has average power in this fight - it will be more than enough to discourage Martinez on the inside. I think that's the only way for Cotto to beat Martinez - smother him, not let him shoot off those lead lefts. If he gives him space - Martinez is going to carve him up.

In this fight, closing the distance and short powerful left hooks to the body will be what the doctor ordered. It stands to reason that his legs will be jelly already so planting to throw punches will be hampered. Start attacking that body and who knows.

The problem I see for Cotto is I don't see how he gets inside on Martinez. Martinez will jab him all night long and hit him with hard straight lefts to the body. Martinez is more open to the right hand than left hook, but Cotto doesn't have a good right hand. What's worse for Cotto is that Martinez showed that he knew how to neutralize a left hook in close against Chavez. I don't see Cotto having the size or power to trouble Martinez even when he does get close. This fight will probably be a much more brutal version of the Trout fight.

this is what this fight very intriguing to me. so many variable and questions. is cotto big enough, can his hand speed match Martinez, can he bring his power up. cotto is a small jr. middle to began with but putting on some weight is only going to reduce his hand speed.. Martinez is a bigger guy even though he himself is a smaller 160lber. is Martinez going to have the same legs, can cotto cut the ring off. is cotto going to switch to southpaw. roach trains all his fighters the same offense is the best defense..
I mean come on , has cotto every been in a bad fight. good or bad even the fight with mayweather was interesting.
