he destroyed jed left hook lacy who was better than tyson
he destroyed prime kessler
he dominated hopkins at his best 11 rounds to 1 fluke round
he dominated a resurgent roy jones 11 rounds to 1 fluke round
he dominated a prime eubank dropping him twice with his insane power
and a bunch of other highly ranked, highly thought of fighters
as for him ducking...........slap yourself calzaghe stye he would never duck anyone
He beat Kessler, who was in his prime, unbeaten and held 2 world title belts at the time. He beat Jeff Lacey who was an unbeaten champion at the time (but massively overhyped and overrated), he beat 3 fellow Brits who were former world champs Chris Eubank (well past his best, Richie Woodhall (mediocre fighter) and Robin Ried (underrated fighter). He beat 2 American fighters who had been world champions, Charles Brewer and Byron Mitchell. He won WBO, IBF, WBC, WBA and Ring magazine belts at Super Middleweight. He won the Ring magazine light heavyweight title by beating Bernard Hopkins (disputed points victory) and then defended it against RJJ (shot).
As for who he is supposed to duck, he signed to fight Glen Johnson but pulled out with hand injuries I believe. He is often criticised for not fighting Ottke, but can't be blamed for not wanted to get screwed by the judges in Germany like
many Ottke opponents. Also Carl Froch accused Joe of ducking him, but really Froch wasn't a big name until after Calzaghe retired.
He faced the best,
Slaughtered the rest,
Faced down death,
and would have withstood George Groves' breath.
His biggest fan is Daggum,
Whom hopes one day to have Joe up his bum,
"To America" they mocked, "He just won't come"
So Joe sailed over and Sodomised their Chosen One.
B-Hop feigned a Low Blow,
But that would never stop Sir. Joe,
Ol' Terry O'Connor did Know
That Manfredo would be a Vegetable if on it did go.
He dropped The Iron-Chinned Chris,
Bernard gave the 3 Million a Miss,
"I'll fight Hakkar Instead,
Big Bad Joe's the One I dread."
So he retired - a Legend, a Sir,
Is he the best? Yes, I concur.
