Cotto's best chance is Martinez's reflexes AND legs being completely gone...and handspeed and breaks his hands (though that doesnt seem to stop him...).

This matchup is honestly a little worrying for Cotto. It also is for Martinez because we dont know whats left... But if there IS some left no way Cotto gets a premier fight again...
Sergio only has a puncher's chance in this one IMO. Cotto has had to deal with WAY faster fighters than Sergio. Cotto has had to deal with taller and tougher fighters too. The only thing Sergio has going for him is if can land a huge punch to hurt or stop Cotto.

Cotto is going to land at will in this one. I think it'll be the other way around with Cotto toying with a hobbled Martinez. No way Martinez is in his peak with the surgery and long layoff.

Cotto is just going to catch Martinez flush all night, but probably no KD or KO. Sergio has no shot of outboxing Cotto to a decision and is going to have to rely on a big punch. That's the way I see it.
This fight will remind everyone of the Carlos Monzon vs Jose Angel Mantequilla Napoles in the late 70's

Cotto it's not that good of a defensive fighter, he always gets hit too much and Martinez has the style to paly with him.

My pops go to Cotto for trying to beat a bigger name, but on this one he is over his head!
Did you just say Martinez is the bigger NAME?

Martinez won't be going for the big punch KO he's going to try and get him to quit on the stool. As long as Martinez doesn't get trapped on the ropes and slips up he should outbox cotto with no problem. Sorry Miguel you bit off more than you can chew and Martinez knows he's unlikely to get a decision over you in MSG.

Didn't know Martinez was that tall.

Well good thing is Cotto really has nothing to lose. I think he's going to be knocked out in the 8th round. I just think of what happened when Pac started putting his punches together Cotto really had no answer. If Sergio were an orthodox fighter I would think differently.

The size and reach advantage couple with Sergio's speed will be the difference in this fight.

No way Cotto lands at will in this one. Martinez is very difficult to land cleanly on. Martinez has outboxed a much more defensively skilled fighter than Cotto. How will Cotto get past Martinez's straight punches? Cotto is too easy to hit cleanly (ask Trout). Martinez will use his height, reach, speed, and skill to outbox Cotto while beating him up at the same time.

Martinez has hit the canvas in all of his last 3 fights... against fighters who are much slower and less accurate punchers than Miguel Cotto.

Cotto has had to go up against the likes of Pacquiao, Mayweather and Zab Judah. Martinez' speed is nothing in comparison.

Cotto is a much more skilled boxer than Martinez. Martinez has a very unorthodox style and is reliant on reflexes and athleticism to dodge punches. If this were the Martinez of a few years ago then I think he could probably hurt Cotto easy, but it's not. It's Sergio coming off a major surgery and a long layoff.

Cotto is too good of a fighter to be handled by anything less than Martinez at his peak and I think based on his previous performances that Martinez is becoming easier and easier to hit with less and less mobility in his legs.

All the guys who dropped Martinez were much bigger and stronger than Cotto. Don't forget, Cotto was hurt by Pacquiao and Mayweather. So it won't take Martinez's best punch to hurt Cotto. Martinez's speed nothing compared to Mayweather's, Pacquiao's, and Judah's? Martinez is extremely fast. His speed will still trouble Cotto. Cotto is a good fighter, but what makes you think middleweight Cotto will be a good fighter? People are forgetting, Cotto is much smaller and weaker than the guys Martinez is used to facing. Skillwise, you are really underrating Martinez. He has a very good jab, is a very good counterpuncher, and is also a very smart tactician. The way he neutralized Chavez's size advantage and inside fighting was very smart. He also outboxed a fighter who is much more fundamentally sound than Cotto in Dzinziruk.

No amount of training can help him healing his knee injury. That's my only concern. With a 100% knee Sergio should win this fight easly.
