Canelo established himself early. I think fight fans have a tendency to buy into a fighter's bravado too much. When Canelo hit him in the first round, I think it was with a left hook, he left an impression on him that stayed with him throughout the fight. Moreover, matters were not helped by Canelo continuing to string his shots together.

I was watching the replay on some English Channel, and after the first round Virgil asked Angulo "are his punches bothering you?" Angulo replied "a little".

MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer was very surprised with how easy Saul "Canelo" Alvarez dominated Alfredo Angulo on Saturday night. In nearly every round, Canelo landed his punches at will and barely missed any of his hard right hands. The fight was finally stopped by referee Tony Weeks in the tenth.

From the very first round, Angulo looked like a shadow of the fighter who dropped Erislandy Lara twice in a fight filled with fireworks in June of 2013. In that particular contest, Angulo was aggressive, throwing many power punch combinations and digging in with vicious hooks to the body.

Ive watched boxing for two decades now and can tell you that one of two things was true that night.

A. El Perro was either sick from being weight drained and too proud to call the fight or

B. he was handsomely rewarded to eat punches for as long as possible.


My guess he was paid. It was evident in the first round and actually before that something was not right. His body language made him appear to not want to be there at all and he would look no one in the eyes.

Canelo is an excellent fighter probably would have won anyway but he also seemed to have far too much bravado in the first round as if he knew nothing was going to come back his way that could hurt him.

Think what you want but this is boxing with millions and millions of dollars on the line. It has happened before and will again.

you sir know your boxing. angulo came out in the first round throwing wimpy little arm punches. people on here are saying that one hook canelo landed took everything out of angulo. yet his legs were still fine, his balance was still perfect, he just forgot how to throw proper punches because he got hit once? makes no sense at all. in the 8th he has canelo against the ropes and he misses on purpose i swear it. canelo is wide open for a crunching left hook and angulo first throws way over his head then on the next he connects but with an open glove. golden boy should be investigated for this kind of crap. you can't pretend to run an honest sporting event that is clearly rigged.

THANK YOU! Bunch of people on here credit it so a couple body shots in the 1st round, but if they were really watching objectively then it was clearly evident something was def not right with el perro.
