  • Comments Thread For: Alfredo Angulo: They Should Have Let The Fight Go On

Saul Alvarez made a winning return to the ring as he stopped fellow Mexican Alfredo Angulo in the 10th round at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. 'Canelo', who lost a mega-fight with Floyd Mayweather last time out, had far too much ammunition for the brave but outclassed Angulo in a non-title bout.

Although Angulo was not put on the canvas, referee Tony Weeks decided to step in at 47 seconds of the 10th round as former WBC and WBA light-middleweight champion Alvarez landed a big uppercut.

    Fake drama.

The fix was becoming too obvious and GBP decided to pull the plug.

I've never seen a fighter put such little effort into actually trying to hurt their opponent. Winging punches from round 1. I hope Angulo uses all that money he was paid to provide for his daughter.

Of course it should have. Phony Weeks proved tonight that he is an incompetent referee. Seriously, they should give all of the main events to Bayless, he is truly in a league of his own.

They were heading into the championship rounds and the event was called Toe-to-Toe, it was going be a war. It was going to get ugly, we know the type of fighter El Perro is. Angulo has been in worse shape before, this was just a horrible stoppage.

Virgil deserves as much blame as Phony though, he opened the doors for the stoppage with his big mouth.

I also prefer Bayless over any other ref

Yeah, nothing like getting the piss beat out of you for another two rounds. If it would have hindered the outcome I would agree, but the fight was won in the 1st round. And IMO the fight was one before it started, they are two fighters in two different leagues.

Perhaps if you had thrown something other than an arm punch then Weekes wouldn't have been in that position.

Angulo looked like a shot fighter in there. All these wars have taken their toll.

Poor Angulo. He has lost his last two fights by KO. He took a beating against Lara and an even worse beating this time.
                    What's next for him?
