First of all, I like Lomachenko, I think he was a great amateur and I think he can be world champ in the pros.
I do not watch a lot of amateur boxing in general, anyways - now I went back and watched parts of a few different amateur fights of Lomachenko and I gotta say that I am surprised he won 396 fights and lost only 1. Here is the reason: he fights in the amateurs by throwing combos and then he gets away with his footwork to not get countered. Nothing looks super spectacular and he doesn't look like a complete ring general and he doesn't look like he is dominating his opponents - at least in the random 4 amateur fights I watched. So I did not watch all his big amateur fights but I just watched a few different fights to get to know the style he used.
So - when people say he is the greatest amateur boxer of all time then this has to be based on his record. Because I remember guys like Mario Kindelan or Felix Savon looked at least in my opinion a lot more dominant in their amateur fights than Lomachenko.
So I am a little bit surprised that Lomachenko could pile up such an amazing amateur record. Especially in the amateurs people get robbed left and right and Lomachenko's boxing style does not make him look like the ring general every minute of every fight.
So - again - I like Lomachenko, I am looking forward to his pro career, I wish him all the best.
Just wanted to say this.
Anybody else watched some of Lomachenko's amateur fights?
