Comments Thread For: Leo Santa Cruz Would Love Guillermo Rigondeaux Fight

Leo Santa Cruz wants to be known as the best junior featherweight in the world. WBA/WBO champion Guillermo Rigondeaux is currently regarded as the best and even though Rigondeaux's promoter Top Rank doesn't currently do business with Santa Cruz's promoter Golden Boy, Santa Cruz said that he would love to get a shot at the Cuban.

Great fight but I'd have to go with the obvious favorite Rigo. Rigo has the speed and ring generalship to keep Leo at a distance and not let him fight inside and brawl.

I love Leo, but at this point Rigo beats him in a more competitive fight than Rigo is accustomed to. Let's see how Santa Cruz looks against Mijares this Saturday.

Rigo lowers his opponent's output, let's see how low he can get Leo to throw...that dude is non-stop

Unlike all the other GBP-TR cross-promotional fights that can't be made. This is one that can. I think this one can be made rather easily. I'm betting Arum wouldn't put up much fuss about taking a step aside fee and letting GBP do this one. So it basically would come down to how bad does GBP want it. This one probably wouldn't be worth it by itself. But if they could get something contractual from Rigo agreeing that he'll move up and fight a Gonzolaz or a Mares or even a Russell. Then it might be worth overpaying for this one.

I like Leo, but Rigo is one step over him, like a pharmacist. (JMT)

It would be good work for both men though... Leo gets experience and Rigo gets to be active for once.

And I'd love to watch it. But it's yet another fight that won't happen for horrible reasons that keep boxing irrelevant compared to what it used to be.

I hope they find some way to make it happen.

I understand it's all promotion for his upcoming fight vs Mija and most likely Santa Cruz was asked about his thoughts vs Rigo. But quit your name dropping carnalito, we all know El Chacal will smoke you. Talk to us when you are serious.
