Vic Darchinyan MMA debut coming soon

GLENDALE, Calif. -- Former four-time boxing world champion Vic Darchinyan has flirted with the idea of trying out professional mixed martial arts for a while now, and it looks like he is ready take the plunge into the cage, according to his trainer, Edmond Tarverdyan.

The opponent, date and site have not been finalized, but Tarverdyan said Darchinyan’s fight will take place in his adopted country of Australia. Darchinyan will compete in the 125-pound flyweight class.

“They actually gave him a fight already in Australia,” Tarverdyan said. “It’s good pay and he’s happy, and he wants to do it.”

Tarverdyan said Darchinyan -- whose father, Ruben Darchinyan, was an Olympic wrestling coach for Armenia -- will begin his MMA training next week at Glendale Fighting Club.

“Vic wants to do MMA,” Tarverdyan said. “He called me. He’s being honest. He said, ‘I’m coming down there. I just need three or four inches and I’ll punch somebody and break their jaw, even on the ground.’ I’m like, ‘Dude, it’s not just about three or four inches.’ He goes, ‘No, no, no ... all I need is a little bit of distance, and if I hit him, I’ll break him.’ And I believe that. He’s so strong.”

Darchinyan, 38, has a pro boxing record of 39-6-1 with 28 KOs. Darchinyan is a former IBF flyweight champion, and he unified the WBC, WBA and IBF titles to become the undisputed super flyweight champion.

Not sure but I know he is close with Rhonda Rousey's striking coach Edmond Tarverdyan whom is also one of Vic's cornermen when he boxes. That's probably his way in.

On a sidenote Hougigo, I heard the bears may lose Hester. Wha u think?!

Pretty much this ; . Not only that but his dad was a freaking Olympic wrestling coach you know Vic did some some of grappling with him. He just needs a strong sprawl and a know how on how to get up to be effective

Homey did you even read the article? his father was the Olympic Wrestling coach or Armenia, Vic has a wrestling background he has said it many times before, the thing is does he still remember the moves and sprawls? His body is so adjusted to boxing stance it will be hard for him to get back to that timing of wrestling where they avoid takedowns. At his age he won't really do much.

when some no name mma scrub tackles him and beats him up people are going to say that boxing would have won if boxers trained grappling.
