Comments Thread For: Burns: If No Crawford, I Will Chase Another World Title

RICKY BURNS insists he has no intentions of quitting as he eyes up another world-title shot in 2014.

The Scottish lightweight, 30, lost his WBO title to Terence Crawford on Saturday night.

Crawford claimed a unanimous points win over Burns to hand the two-weight world champion his first defeat in seven years.

Rematch with Crawford for what??? It was easy work for Terence the fight wasn't even close I gave Burns 2-3 rounds max, Beltran deserves the title shot next seen as he should already have that belt around his waist

tbh i didnt like his behaviour, he was smiling too much, complementing crawford about a body shot he received to his corner, if i was a scot in that arena i saw this dummy smiling and joking after he lost and after i spent my money to see him, i would of bronered him on his way out of the ring.

There isn't a world champion at 135 that he'd beat.

Burns overachieved with his career. He was never really that good. There are some good fights domestically for him and he probably deserves a crack at another world title but not sure if he'd beat any of the other champions.

For me personally I think he regressed as a fighter, he used to be more consistent with his offense, his coordination was a lot better, didn't throw nearly as wide as he does now. It's rare to see fighters regress like that but that's what I see so far. Against Crawford however he looked like he was afraid to get hit and Burns has never been the tentative type.

Who was he fighting though? Guys like Martinez, Mithcell and Katsidis allowed him to do that. To be fair though, he was losing to much lower level guys earlier in his career so I never expected him to even beat those guys.

Burns is a very brave guy and quite strong too but very limited in ability. What he lacks in ability he makes up with determination. This is not the end of him, he can still win many fights. People need to know that Crawford is the next best thing now. He will dominate for a long time as long as he stays determined. He's in the same class as Ward and Dirrell in terms of ability and he needs careful management to fully utilise his potential now. I like the kid and I hope he takes over once Mayweather retires.

Ricky Burns had better stay well away from Vazquez, because Vazquez will retire Burns. Burns is better off to fight another title holder of lightweight, because Vazquez is a better skilled boxer than Crawford.

Really like Burns, but as was mentioned earlier he has regressed as a fighter a little. To be fair though a badly broken jaw must have affected his mindset in this fight. Not to say he would have won if the injury hadn't occurred. It may have been closer and he 'may' have edged it but Crawford was excellent at times. Great movement, and I liked how when he was (rarely) tagged clean by Burns he always answered back and went on the offensive. Burns was too 1-dimensional and spent far too many of the middle to later rounds on the ropes.

I also don't think there was enough urgency in his corner. At the end of the 11th round Crawfords corner were telling him he needed the 12th. Not so for Ricky...

I hadn't seen Crawford fight before and was really impressed. Ricky can get to a world title shot again, I can't see him beating anyone at the moment though.
