No, I read right. You made contradictory statements, so I went with the gist of the argument and just focused on what I felt was important. Gloves that don't close tight are more of a hazard for the fighters' hands. If you can't make a tight fist, you can break your hand. I haven't seen any knockouts yet in the WSB. (I'm not saying they haven't happened, mind you.) It could be that the fighters can't make a good fist.
Olympic boxing gloves don't weigh 8 ounces. Don't you think Lomachenko would know the difference? I've worked out with 16 oz gloves and didn't have a problem making a tight fist. I don't know why Vasyl is the only guy (that we know of) that complained about the gloves not closing, but the fact is that he did. Why would he say that if it weren't true? What was there to gain?
Lomo was facing the kind of comp he's been beating at a 99.99% rate his entire amateur career. I'm sure he didn't see the point in doing that anymore. It's just not a true professional experience. When you have that kind of competition, and the gloves aren't exactly what's used in the pros, it's "semi-pro," as far as I'm concerned.
The last time it appeared to me that a fighter couldn't fully close his gloves was a few days ago, with the Cuban Julio Cesar La Cruz versus the Azerbaijani Teymur Mammadov. It appeared to me that La Cruz wasn't closing his gloves, even to punch. And just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it's not happening.
Salido missed weight by two pounds, gave up his title on the scales, and was a welterweight (147) on fight night. Is all that supposed to favor Lomo? Vasyl didn't win for a variety of reasons, not the least of which were Siri's toughness, incessant low-blows and Lomo's own inexperience. Even then, the fight was close. A faded Salido would've been tough for Rigo in his second fight. Today? "El Chacal" would embarrass him.
