obviously lomachenkos fights in the WSB were professional fights (they just weren't accounted for) so he really had 7 or 8 fights going into the salido match, not his first professional fight.........and what makes a pro fight? the rules and lack of head gear. theres no such thing as "semi pro" it's ether the rules were closer to a professional bout or an amateur bout. and in this case they were pro fights............(pro fights that simply weren't accounted for
No, I read right. You made contradictory statements, so I went with the gist of the argument and just focused on what I felt was important. Gloves that don't close tight are more of a hazard for the fighters' hands. If you can't make a tight fist, you can break your hand. I haven't seen any knockouts yet in the WSB. (I'm not saying they haven't happened, mind you.) It could be that the fighters can't make a good fist.

Olympic boxing gloves don't weigh 8 ounces. Don't you think Lomachenko would know the difference? I've worked out with 16 oz gloves and didn't have a problem making a tight fist. I don't know why Vasyl is the only guy (that we know of) that complained about the gloves not closing, but the fact is that he did. Why would he say that if it weren't true? What was there to gain?

Lomo was facing the kind of comp he's been beating at a 99.99% rate his entire amateur career. I'm sure he didn't see the point in doing that anymore. It's just not a true professional experience. When you have that kind of competition, and the gloves aren't exactly what's used in the pros, it's "semi-pro," as far as I'm concerned.

The last time it appeared to me that a fighter couldn't fully close his gloves was a few days ago, with the Cuban Julio Cesar La Cruz versus the Azerbaijani Teymur Mammadov. It appeared to me that La Cruz wasn't closing his gloves, even to punch. And just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it's not happening.

i honestly think salido has regressed greatly.....he's old, warn, and can't even make his weight anymore. this was a showcase fight for lomachenko. salido actually was complaining about getting down in weight...i don't even think he wanted this fight at 125. he warned that he would be dead at the weight and he could no longer make it.........what did arum say? **** you salido. you're gonna stay at 125 and be a stepping stone for my new future star.......so am i shocked that he missed the weight? NO. he's dead at 125.......after the micky fight he wanted to fight martinez at 130. the only reason he drained down again was because of arum and lomachenko demanding that it be at 125.........

so in realty a aging saldio at 125 (a weight that he has to struggle with) is not all that impressive........in fact salido looked very sluggish.

and last but not least, lomachenko didn't even win..........
Salido missed weight by two pounds, gave up his title on the scales, and was a welterweight (147) on fight night. Is all that supposed to favor Lomo? Vasyl didn't win for a variety of reasons, not the least of which were Siri's toughness, incessant low-blows and Lomo's own inexperience. Even then, the fight was close. A faded Salido would've been tough for Rigo in his second fight. Today? "El Chacal" would embarrass him.

    • Win or loose he doesn't have Rigo skill level! Does it take a loss for his bandwagon folks to fall off? He moved to quickly and he got what he earned, a tuff night with a pro who ruffed him up and made him back off! In the amatuers the very first thing your taught is to be "first with punches" and that carrys over to the pros but Salido took that away and the kid never got back on track. I saw a few early body shots that weren't announced as much but I know he got hurt a few times by the way he acted the rest of the round.
He has skills and seems to have the desire but just like everyone else who makes the transition he needs time......................he thought his amatuer success was good enough. He was WRONG!
I know there were low blows to the point of points should have been subtracted but that in mind still has him getting beat up. The pros fight&box the amatuers just box! His personal management didn't need to accept the weight difference but they did, another dumb move by amatuers! Ray.

        • Lomachenko > Rigo IMHO

Amazing performance with all the odds stacked against him in his second fight- multiple (over 20) low blows, headbutts and an absolutely imcompetent referee

Big rigo fan but he probably gets KOd if he fought Salido in his second fight, IMHO

I dont think either guy loosing makes the other guy look "good", but you are a man alone on an island, and what would happen to Lomachenko if he fought a p4p fighter in his 12th fight? Let's say for fun Guillermo Rigondeaux? How anyone see Lomachenko winning is beyond me unless Lomachenko gets his **** together big time it wouldn't even be competitive he needs to be 1000 times better than what he was the dude lost to the worst Salido anyone has ever seen.

But if your argument is that he is better in your opinion even tho he would loose to Rigondeaux (right now pathetically so) that sir is baffling. Even if he got back on the hype track he would have to pull off a miracle to even be competitive by his 12th fight from how lost he looked. As dirty as Salido was Lomachenko had nothing his only hope was that chunky Salido would gas because he was not doing a damn thing.

            • Gentleman, its not so much the gloves, its the WRAPS

Lomachenko in an interview which wasnt correctly translated to english said that in WSB the gloves are bigger and they use amateur style hand wrapping.
