  • Comments Thread For: Chavez Jr. Refocused, Aims To Be Next Star of Mexico

Julio César Chávez Jr. is fully focused on his career. After suffering his first career loss, and his WBC middleweight title, to Sergio Martinez in 2012 - he tested positive for marijuana and lost interest in boxing. Coming into last year's fight with Bryan Vera, Chavez struggled with weight and the fight, originally scheduled for 165-pounds, was increased to 168 and then to 173. Most believe Chavez had not done enough to win, but he gets the chance for redemption later tonight when he faces Vera for a second time, at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

He lost all credibility with the **** he pulled during and after the Martinez fight. The whole positive drug test combined with the weight fiasco hurt his reputation. Plenty of people gave up on him because of his lack of motivation and respect for the sport.

He will always be relevant in the sport because of his last name but he must be high if he thinks he's carrying the baton as the next great superstar. He doesn't have the skills nor the support, and struggling against guys like Vera is not going to help.

I think he was a half pound under. He even showed up with one of those giant billboard checks for 250k with a giant VOID stamped all over it.

I hope this is true. A motivated Chavez gives a lot of people problems and is just down right fun to watch.
