Comments Thread For: Hatton: Mayweather-Maidana a Mismatch, a Canelo Repeat

Ricky Hatton, who faces Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2007, was shocked with the pound-for-pound king's recent decision to face Marcos Maidana on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Hatton felt his countryman Amir Khan, who Mayweather passed up, was a much better choice and had a far better shot at making the match competitive.

Hatton expects a repeat of Mayweather's fight with former junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. Mayweather boxed his way to a lopsided twelve round decision win. The Manchester icon is predicting an more one-sided victory, because he considers Canelo to be a more accomplished fighter.

I agree with his assessment, you need a few things to trouble floyd and the most important is speed. If you have the footspeed to stay on floyd you can have some success there. Of course it's not enough on it'sown to win you the fight, but it may at least buy you a round here and there, Ricky himself had underrated footspeed and at least for a round or two at the start, it was enough to frustrate floyd into making some mistakes and not have it all his own way, until floyd figured out hattons weaknesses

I think lack of footspeed is one of the worst handicaps against floyd, stationary fighters really can't do much to him at all because if he chooses to he will stay out of range all night long and you really cant do anything to him he doesnt want done.

This is a mismatch, people are blinded by power but power means nothing if you cant hit your opponent, and maidana wont be able to hit floyd.

Come on guys. Are you really saying Amir Khan will beat Mayweather because of styles? Canelo is pretty fast and strong, Amir Khan has been knocked out several times now. Why would he finally be the one who breaks Mayweather's code? Either way I think its better to fighter a Man coming off of a big win, then Khan who hasn't beaten a significant opponent in a while and has been knocked out a few times... lol seriously Amir Khan shouldn't be in the discussion. If he is so fast, why lose all of those times?

Hatton-May was boss though, still my favorite given all the circumstances of the fight. Ricky came to win.

Maidana doesn't fight anything like Alvarez, why do people keep saying this? Use an accurate comparison like Guerrero or Ortiz.

Exactly. Well said. And that is why.. All Floyd's opponents are always slower than him for an easy paycheck. Caching!
