He can either become a Fenech like guy who succeeds with few fights or he could become a David Reid, Davey Moore, etc, who burns out early. Even Dulorme and Del Valle and guys like that have shown what happens when you step up too quickly. It is a double-edged sword. I hope that Salido drowns Lom in the deep waters and sends a message that there are no shortcuts, you have to pay your dues first.

I agree. But for guys who have competed in, and been highly successful on the international level, I think its a waste of time. This guy is a two time Olympic gold medalist. Fighting some cat that's 3-7 and works at UPS in a 4rd'r just because its only his 2nd pro start doesn't make a lotta sense to me.Comment

He hasn't proven himself to be a world-class pro boxer yet, but he may do so in the months to come.
I'm more excited about Lomachenko-Salido than any other fight this year.Comment

Lomachenko may very well be in the top 5 "talents" in the world. That does not mean he has professional experience though. He is still unproven for 12 round endurance, 12 round toughness and 12 round experience. Those are not minor obstacles. It is impossible to gauge his overall "talent" right now. If we gauged him with what we have seen so far, Jermaine Taylor and Zab Judah would both still be champions..
He is being moved at such a high pace, that we will find out in the very near future if he is ready to swim with the big boys.Comment

It's possible he is one of the most talented fighters in the world - one of the great things about boxing however is that skill isn't all there is. One's ability to fight on through adversity, to take a punch, to dig deep when exhaustion threatens...these are qualities also necessary to consistantly win at the top level. These are qualities which are as yet unproven in Lomachenko.
Potentially he could be amongst the greatest boxers in history, but right now that's all he has in the pro ranks - potential. His unmatched amateur career has given him a flying start in the pro game, and I believe it justified, but from here on in he has to be judged off what he actually does against other professional fighters.Comment
