Comments Thread For: Carlos Molina’s Head is a Weapon, Says Charlo’s Trainer

Junior-middleweight titleholder Carlos Molina isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing fighter, but he’s a formidable enough opponent that he’s scored wins over Ishe Smith, Cory Spinks and Kermit Cintron — and was ahead on the cards against James Kirkland in 2012 before being knocked down and controversially disqualified.

Molina (22-5-2, 6 KOs) will defend his belt against Jermall Charlo (17-0, 13 KOs) on March 8 on the undercard to the Canelo Alvarez-Alfredo Angulo pay-per-view. Charlo’s trainer, Ronnie Shields, says that they will also have to prepare for the way Molina uses his head in the ring.

I can see Jermall closing Molina right eye this fight ,but the first five rounds will be very ugly Jermall ahead on the score cards. Watching Molina fights you rarely see his any of his opponents do any body work that's the key to beating this guy.

I'd say his Elmyra tactic of hugging and squeezing is more a weapon than his head. Especially if this Charlo fights like his brother and Molina has to close the gap.

The draw with LARA ???? The robbery with CHAVEZ JR. ???? MOLINA is a bad ass and his inside boxe reminds me GINFRANCO ROSI,MOLINA is almost tougher than the italian and let me say ROSI was really a tough one!!!

molina is terrible. lara beat him clearly on my card. people complaining that he was robbed because teddy atlas had a ******ed scorecard. clean punches to non clean punches. without his hugging he would be a slow plodder bum. people complain about the kirkland fight but wlad jr should have been dq'd by the 5th round. i have no sympathy for this fool and i'm 90 percent sure molina and juan diaz are the same person. the flab gives it away. notice how they are never in the same place at the same time?

Molina is a tough tricky and skilled SOB, but both Charlos have a formidable weapon in their jab - at least, to the level they've fought.

Just from his track record and experience I am expecting Molina to find a way inside and rough up Jermall, for whom this is a massive step up. If things go as I think we should have a Molina UD.

Only thing is Molina can be an easy fighter to score against if that is what the judges want to see - if Jermall can keep behind his jab for a large portion of rounds he could end up getting the nod.

How many headbutt incidents can you count in Molina's career?

now I heard it all, Molina head butting???? what Mo-phuker will say, in case they lose, I was worried about the head butts and thast why I lost, people here continue to hate on Molina for holding in ONLY ONE fight...and wont let go of that one fight because they just want to hate that's all, but Carlos Molina's fights got more action than any of Hopkins and Alexander's fight put together, Molina hold Kirkland, but was constantly putting combinations of three to four punches which landed in Kirkland's face a master peace if you ask me, because if you give Kirkland an opening he'll KD you. But as far as thi Sharlo dude he is just looking for excuses when he loses.

For those who don't understand the reference:

Judging by their records, Jermall has more power than Jermell. I'm hoping he takes the strap off Molina.

The clinic Molina put on Kirkland made me a fan. Dude is the definition of float like a butterfly sting like a bee.
