It's amazing how certain apologists round' here will be ok if the fight did not happen. Surely they will fall back on Gamboa "pricing out" and the Rios fiasco.

In the end they will all be in agreement with O'Mighty Robert Garcia's philosophy of: Protect little Miguelito at all cost. Big brother is playing a dual role as brother/mother and sheltering Miguelito under his skirt.

If this fight happens it's going to be really sad watching Garcia get beat by Gamboa in front of thousands of his fans in some place in California.

-Gamboa will fight him at any weight
-Gamboa will have to take little $$$

I agree with your logic, to a point. There are limits. Who really wanted to see Mikey fight Burgos? I mean, really. On the other hand, regardless of what some might say, I will bet anything that a Gamboa fight will generate much more interest. That means Yuri (the B-side) ought to get more than Juan Carlos, although there are limits to that, too, of course.

Lol, nobody wanted to see Garcia vs. Burgos. And there's no doubt Garcia vs. Gamboa generates the most interest of any fight for Mikey other than maybe a unification against Uchiyama at 130 or a title shot at 135 against Crawford.

I'd like to know what kind of money Gamboa is expecting. Once we know that everyone could assess the situation better.

Let's say Top Rank/HBO is willing to fork out a million dollars for the fight. And we'll say Garcia gets $750,000 and Gamboa gets $250,000. If Team Gamboa accepts something like that and Team Garcia doesn't then I'd put 100% of the blame on Team Garcia.

I think Gamboa's history with Top Rank complicates things a lot though. Top Rank might not feel comfortable risking one of their cash cows with someone they have a bad history with, and would rather just throw Garcia in with someone like Diego Magdaleno who will probably take similar money to what Burgos got. Cheaper fight, and the hype train keeps going. Who knows, maybe Robert and Mikey really are scared of Gamboa. At this point it's too soon to be calling them "duckers" though.
