Some will sometimes favor the underdog, no matter how slim the chances seem. But i can't help but disagree, viewing both their styles that this was a pick em fight in favor of Floyd Mayweather. You really need great, not good but great handspeed and a good boxing technique to beat FMJ at his own game. A southpaw has the advantage against his shoulder roll but just trying to run down Floyd. Honestly, that's exactly what Maidana will try to do. He will try to fight his own fight and get outclassed. Mayweather may have lost a step but he proved he can roll and take some big shots. The same way he did against Cotto. They are two different fighters but Maidana will try to press the attack and brawl.
FMJ is simply going to see how hard Maidana can punch and after the third round he will adjust by rolling around and slipping away from Maidana and then counter back with the right hand. I can see Maidana walking straight into several blows as he tries to walk FMJ down which will only benefit FMJ himself.
The key to beating Mayweather is to not be flat footed. Stay on your toes the whole time, Don't throw the right hook to the body. He's just going to block that anyway. Any fighter should try to aim for the left hook to the body and throw some follow up punches to confuse FMJ. You really need to throw him of his gameplan because if you stay flatfooted and throw lineair punches he will have you figured out in a split second and counter you all night long. This is FMJ'S strength.
I don't think FMJ will dominate Maidana across the ring or walk him down but i can see a clear unanimous decision or a 10-2 victory in favor of FMJ.
Maidana has the power and the big hooks but that's not enough to bring FMJ off of his gameplan. You really need the whole package.
Bradley, Khan, Pacquaio would give FMJ a lot to think about. Think back about the Ricky Hatton - Floyd Mayweather fight. Ricky tried to press the action in the early rounds and had some success but shortly after Mayweather adjusted and started taking control of the fight and wore Ricky Hatton out and then he eventually knocked him out. I don't think Maidana will get knocked out. But beaten through decision? Pretty sure he will be.
