Comments Thread For: Garcia: Maidana Earned Mayweather With Broner Win

Trainer Robert Garcia believes Marcos Maidana's huge win over Adrien Broner, from last December, was more than enough to earn him a shot at Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Maidana and Amir Khan were the two frontrunners to fight Mayweather on the May date. Mayweather put together an official poll, which allowed the fans to select his next opponent - with Khan and Maidana as the only two selections. Maidana jumped off to a big early lead in the poll, but Khan rallied for support from his huge number of social network followers, and that allowed him to power past Maidana to win the poll.

      No, not really.

But then again, Khan hasn't earned it either.

Both shit opponents for Floyd and I won't be purchasing either fight.

BULL****!!!!!!! AB is my man and all. But beating doesn't "earn" you ****. In the welterweight pecking order you have Floyd on top. Then the Bradley, Pac, JMM group. Then you have the Porter, Guerrero, Alexander group. And then you have the Malignaggi, Judah, Thurman, Soto Karass, Broner, Maidana group. Nice win for Chino. But he needs to move a lil higher up the welterweight foodchain before you "earn" a shot at Floyd.

Hey, if AB was that easy to beat the first time. Chino should have no problem "dominating" him and "humiliating" him in the rematch. And putting himself right back in line for a Floyd fight in Sept. Hell, that's smart business. He supposedly got a pup about to drop. Hell, an easy payday with Broner and a mega payday with Floyd in Sept should get him up quite nice.

There's a lot of factors that go into making a prize fight and "earning the shot, or "deserving the chance" are LAST on the list, or CLOSE TO IT. You guys act like this is the first time you've had to digest this formula, its not. More often than not the opponent with the total package is going to get the nod over the "guy who deserves it most." Its a business, deal with it.

              He's right.
If the choice is Maidana or Khan, the clear choice should be Maidana.

I agree Khan has done jack**** since he beat Zab Judah. Betaing two journeyman in a row barely isn't enough.

And I have no problem repeating this until you guys comprehend it, and make enough room in your pea brain to retain. It's simple.

I agree. Obviously at ww-tim, jmm, and manny, are ranked ahead of Maidana. Tim and Manny are better ww opponents. Expanding to 154, Lara would be better than Maidan IMO.

So i think he is the 4th best option overall and the 2nd best of whose available.
