You have to consider the fact that Cotto will be the best and most complete fighter that Sergio has ever fought before. PERIOD. He will not come in a fat, bloated 160 pounder. He and Freddie are too smart for that. He will come in as you said, light, quick of hand and foot, and his much improved defense will be on display as well. Sergio has a lot of amateurish ways that Cotto will exploit. The whole keeping his hands down to be arrogant will haunt him once Cotto's fast, accurate, and heavy jab punches his face, time after time after time. Cotto is a very live under-dog in this fight and I expect that if he has anything left, he WILL make history. Sergio has always been over-rated and he is OLD. Mark my words. You have to at least give the HOF'mer a chance in this fight. Anything less, is disrespectful.
Cotto has a large reach and height deficit to overcome if he wants to land that jab. And it's not easy to land a jab on Martinez. Especially since he constantly moves. I read an article where Roach says Cotto will enter the ring at 155. How will a 155 lb Cotto hurt a guy 180 lb Pavlik couldn't hurt? Cotto is not this vicious, pressure fighting beast at middleweight you guys make him out to be. He is severely undersized, not that powerful, and highly susceptible to movers.
I'll tell you how. Martinez is over-rated. His wins over Williams, Pavlik, and Chavez Jr. had more to do with them, then him. Williams was a dumb fighter who was really thin for Middleweight. Pavlik was a drunk who no longer had the desire to fight, yet he still floored Sergio and had him hurt on several occasions. Chavez Jr. was a ****y, fat, and undisciplined kid. Imagine if he did rounds 1-11, what he did in the 12th? Cotto is battle-tested and the REAL DEAL. He WILL hit Sergio and he can hurt Sergio. I will be happy to bet on the fight.
I find it do funny to read some of you idiots living in the past with Amir Khan and what a challenge he still proposes Floyd, why he's a better choice than Maidana. Or you idiots that think a 40 year old, drug tested Juan Manuel Marquez would out box Provo or Pacquiao still, or this rehabilitated from a plethora of injuries, 40 year old Sergio Martinez would stop Miguel Cotto, let alone beat him. You clowns keep talking about these guys as though they are 28 years old and in their prime. As though they have chins of granite, youthful legs, blazing hand speed with power as though they arein their prime now. What the hell is wrong with you clowns living in fantasyland, betting with your heart, not common sense. The same guys thought both Curtis Stevens and Brandon Rios were killers and were going to expose Gennady & Pacquiao. And then the same guys come out after the results were in saying "oh everyone knew Stevens & Rios were over-rated, b-level fighters at best". Make up your minds and be a man and own it when you guess wrong. And you're about to be grossly mistaken again when Cotto more youthful than Sergio and drums his azz; the Trout/Cotto fight is no reflection on this outcome. Trout was young, massive, the size of a Lt Heavyweight, and very awkward; fought the fight of his life. Sergio won't present those same problems, standing in front of Cotto with his hands down at 40 yrs old . Marquez has no ballz to get in the ring with Provo and will orchestrate a great excuse why he doesn't need to fight Provo. Amir Khan hasn't been credible since 2010. Don't bet with your heart, use some common sense.

Pavlik never had Martinez hurt. Chavez DID do in rounds 1-11 what he did in 12. It's just that every time he did, Martinez answered back. It wasn't like Chavez suddenly woke up in round 12. He just got Martinez with a huge right hand. Martinez has beaten world class middleweights. He's not overrated. He is the lineal middleweight champion with several wins over top 10 contenders. Cotto has consistently shown a tendency to fade. Fading against Martinez almost guarantees being knocked out. What makes you think Cotto at 155 lbs can hurt a fighter who's used to fighting much bigger and stronger fighters? Cotto couldn't defeat Trout. Martinez has the same tools Trout used to give Cotto so much trouble (movement, straight to the body, jab, strength advantage, stamina, etc.). If you rate Cotto so highly, does that mean you give Martinez credit if he defeats Cotto?
Nope. If Martinez wins, he was supposed to. He's the bigger, stronger, and faster fighter. Right? Beating Cotto does nothing for him; that is why when the smaller Cotto does better than everyone thinks, he will have proven WHY he's going to the HOF. Never be impressed when a bigger fighter beats a smaller fighter. NEVER.
