Wouldn't we only be counting fights from the PPV era, not the 60's, 70's and 80's?

I guess so. when cable got involved in big fights and you didn't have cable you had to go watch closed circuit. but those weren't ppv fights, they were just HBO fights and not everyone had HBO-like Ray v Hagler.
