Comments Thread For: 'Best Of Showtime Boxing 2013' Special Airs Tonight

As fans thoroughly enjoyed the past year of boxing offered by Showtime in 2013, tonight will serve as the first chance to relive those moments.

SHOWTIME presents “Best of Showtime Boxing 2013,” a 25-minute special hosted by Paul Malignaggi. The distinction comes on the heels of the former two-division champ and current network analyst being honored by the Boxing Writers Association of America, earning the Sam Taub award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism.

The outspoken Brooklynite will be joined on the show by broadcast teammates Mauro Ranallo, Al Bernstein, Steve Farhood and Brian Kenny. Also providing analysis will be ring announcer Jimmy Lennon Jr., also a BWAA honoree for the Marvin Kohn Good Guy award.

The network aired a similar special in early 2013, highlighting a breakthrough 2012 campaign that saw a major closing of the gap between Showtime and long-time industry leader HBO. The rivalry grew in 2013, with Showtime’s raising by more than 24 percent from the previous year and 64 percent overall since Stephen Espinoza assumed the reins of Executive Vice President and General Manager of Showtime Sports just over two years ago. I don't know why the writer would characterize Canelo's loss to Mayweather as "humiliating"....the kid was only 23 and he handled himself well against one of the all-time greats. Didn't get stopped, didn't go down, and never stopped trying to win the fight.

Possibly because Canelo was either too ****** or too ignorant to realize he had no business trying to "outbox" Mayweather which is what he attempted.

Canelo was this pretty boy being worshiped and came into the fight completely confident. Because in his mind he felt that because he and Floyd both were undefeated, and defensive boxers, that they were on an equal level. He really thought it was gonna be easy. Right before the fight, this dude isnt even looking at the ring. He is looking away from the ref, posing for the camera while bouncing on his feet. Floyd was ready to go to work. Then Canelo, being 22, 165lbs, got WALKED down, forced against the ropes, in a fetal position by a little 36 year old grandpa. That WAS humiliating. It was Floyd's best performance, against his biggest and toughest foe.
