I'd have to pick Larry Merchant just for how much he pissed off Floyd and he did make good observations no matter how much people were butthurt about him being straight to the point.
Larry was pretty good at times mainly when he was pissing fighters off post-fight but he went on those rambling monologues that were soooooo s l o w when he just turned to the camera, the other commentators would fade out of shot and Larry would begin his soliloquy...just need to dim the lights, give him a skull and a Shakespeare script.

Next to Don Dunphy,Jim Lampley and Larry Merchant are the two greatest
announcers in boxing history.Since Larry retired,Jim Lampley is the best right
now.HBO caters to the more mature, serious, informed boxing fan.The other
networks are a step down from HBO.

I also like Al Bernstein alot because for a guy who never boxed man the guy has some great knowledge. To a point Channel 5 from UK came calling and he does guest work for them too.

            Any takers on Steve Bunce?

I think bernstein and malinaggi make a great team together. I used to be a fan of lampley but the last few years he's been declining. I like kellerman's analysis. Bernard hopkins did peterson-jean the other week and was god awful.

I've been wondering for a while how Floyd would do as a commentator. He has one of the highest Ring IQs in the sport, so I would think he'd do well.

His voice doesnt bother me either and unfortunately just like singing not everyone has the voice for it. He understand and knows how a fighter feels EXACTLY in a certain situation. Its great because for those of us who havent and will not box with relevant knowledge and understand a sport we wont participate in but still love dearly.

So its quite simple people whom do you all think is the best commentator in boxing?

Not a huge fan but he had some interesting choice of words:

In reference to Mike Tyson vs. Buster Douglas

"Douglas insists that he's going to shock the world in this fight. If he should upset Tyson, it would make the shocks in Eastern Europe seem like local ward politics."

Forgot about tarver for a sec he was pretty good himself and his voice was fit for commentary too. Andre Ward not so much as much as the guy has inside knowledge his voice bothers me on commentary.
