The trunks Camacho wore were only a part of the differences. Rosario was a native Puerto Rican, Camacho was from New York. That clearly indicates the obvious difference and who would support who so it is relevant. But Puerto Rico is desperate for a champion and who can blame them for the long lineage of Boxing heritage. But their support will be conditional and limited and as long as Garcia realizes that he is just a temporary fix for them, the better off he is if he faces a native Puerto Rican so that he does not have any delusions of grander when they drop him like a hot potato in favor of one of their own. There will always be that barrier up between them.
So you want to know more about Puerto Rico fan than a Puerto Rican? Dude I live here. Camacho was not dislike because he moved, he always showed he was rican, even with his shtty spanish. It was his antics, his show.

Desperate for a champion? Man where you people get your stuff. Some fans are desperate. We have more issues to solve than a boxing champion. Boxing is still alive and well and there is no hurry or real demand. 10 fans in the internet dont represent us. Most rican fans are casual and when the new champ comes, they will root for him. They are not looking for a champ. But if you think you know more than me about PR, come and walk with me around and lets ask people, please.

In some areas there is a stigma about speaking Spanish. People want to fit into American culture and don't want to be seen as different or stand out and draw excess attention to themselves.

I agree that it is sad. People should preserve their culture as much as possible while still blending into the melting pot.

The point flew WAY over your head! Work on your reading comprehension! I did not say Camacho was disliked so go back a read everything again. I said that as far as native Puerto Ricans, most pulled for Rosario over Camacho. Camacho was NOT part of the Puerto Rican culture to the extent that Rosario was. And Garcia is even less than Camacho. I doubt you were alive then or you would know when the New York fans pulled for Camacho and the native Puerto Ricans pulled for Rosario that was BEFORE Camacho wore the trunks. I'll give you another point. If Wilfredo Gomez was a prime 140pound fighter right now or Garcia was a prime 122 pound fighter back when Gomez ruled, WHO do you think native Puerto Rican's would have pulled for??? And FYI - Rican fans are anything but casual...they have a PASSIONATE pride when it comes to supporting their fighter! Maybe they aren't desperate for a native Puerto Rican champ, but the long for one and deserve one or more. And the bottom like is, Garcia will receive (limited) support till the moment he signs a contract to fight a NATIVE Puerto Rican and then the honeymoon is over, kaput, Nada, as if it never existed and that is the difference between unconditional support and conditional support. Whatever modicum of support Garcia receives in his next fight will be null and void if he faces a native Puerto Rican like Verdejo who in a couple years could be a star. That goes without saying.

Yeah, man. As old as I am, and as much as I've been around, I didn't experience that head until I moved to Austin for a while. I grew up in NYC, the very definition of a melting pot, amongst many Hispanics. The notion of not being able to speak Spanish freely -- or any other language, for that matter -- was, pardon the pun, foreign to me. I feel sorry for those folks.

They will never give their hearts fully to someone who is not from the island, ESPECIALLY if he faces a native PR, then they will turn completely on him. He needs to realize he will never have unconditional support. He will ONLY get that from people back east in his home state/city. This whole scenario is neither right nor wrong, it just is what it is.

Just watched the Herrera, Provo fight and I'm really impressed with Herrera. That fight could have went either way. This should be a very good fight between Danny and Herrera. Danny by UD though.

I live in Puerto Rico all my life, and I actually don't five a f@ck if Danny is from here or not. I like his not boring style plus he is bringing a good show to us here in the Island and I appreciate that. As far as Juanma I'm so disappointed in him; when he was away he should have work on his defense and getting better not just going on and doing nothing like he was the ****, I mean he got beat up by Salido.
