Comments Thread For: Frampton To Quigg: When You Step Up, You Will Get KO'd!

Carl Frampton (17-0, 12KOs) has lashed out at his domestic super bantamweight rival, Scott Quigg. Frampton is training to fight former champion Hugo Cazares (40-7-2, 27KOs) in a final WBC eliminator in Belfast at the Odyssey Arena on April 4. Frampton had heated words for Quigg, the WBA champion, in response to some recent trash talk.

“They must be desperate if they are making up gym stories. What he said was complete rubbish. He also had a go at Cazares being a light flyweight. Cazares has been fighting as a Super-bantamweight for the last few years and he is the number one challenger for the WBC title," Frampton told Newsletter.

I don't mind Frampton, but he was offered the fight with Quigg (after he beat Salinas) and turned it down. He also turned down a final eliminator against Chris Avalos, which I'm really surprised at because that would have made him mandatory for Kiko Martinez.

You really have to wonder what McGuigan has in mind, as it doesn't make sense.

Cazares is much older and smaller than Avalos/Quigg, so it does make sense. McGuigan is taking the path of least resistance like promoters tend to do.

Promotional shifting around means the Quigg isnt really on the cards right now. Im sure it will be though.

I prefer him taking the route to Leo Santa Cruz. Although Kiko gave him a tough fight, I, and most, had Frampton winning on the cards even before he KO'd him in the 9th. A rematch would hold a small amount of interest, but for me that is dealt with for the time being.

LSC vs Frampton is the fight i want to see, and by going the WBC route thats the fight they are pushing for.

Edit: Obviously we all hope the winner of Santa Cruz vs. Frampton would get a crack at the division champ

It'd be one of the best fights in boxing

Very true. It's mismanagement though. Frampton should have kicked on after beating Martinez but he's gone backwards. He has fought once in a year since then against the mighty Parodi!

Unless they already have either Martinez or Santa Cruz lined up, I cannot really see why they would turn down the chance to be mandatory for a guy he has already beaten!

You're just repeating what Quigg said on Ringside.

Frampton well before that had already stated that they wouldn't mind a Kiko rematch but KM started playing them around and Cruz started mentioning fRAMPTON'S NAME SO Frampton said he and Barry changed course to go the route of the WBC. Fair enough, in Cruz he will be fighting a much better fighter and not someone he has already beaten.

In terms of Framp/Quigg, both camps keep saying they made offers but the other turned it down. Not sure what's going on there but this fight makes more sense when both have championships.

I think they're looking at the bigger picture atm. Going down this path leads to Santa Cruz, which would be Frampton's debut fight in the USA and his first time working with GBP. If he loses, he can always go back to the IBF and fight for their #1 contender position again.

All said & done with Rigo 100% ruling the roost @ 122Lb all Frampton/Quigg proves is who's #1 in Europe & the Commonwealth. This fight should have happened when Quigg was British champion.
