Can anybody with a little more knowledge than I explain Gennady's history with Sanchez. Obviously Sanchez didn't get Gennady into boxing when he was a little kid. He didn't train Gennady while he became one of the greatest amateurs of all time. He wasn't there for the gold medals. He didn't create the machine that is getting all the recognition today. Did he become his trainer when Gennady came to America? Why didn't Gennady keep his old Kazakh trainer?

I'm just uncomfortable with how much Sanchez speaks for Gennady. I realize Gennady does not speak fluent English, but I do not like how Sanchez brings Gennady down with his immature, repulsive remarks in article after article. When I see Gennady, I see a bright, charismatic boxer that wants to take on the best in the world... when he's ready.

I just wish (especially with an online interview/article) that the writer of Boxing Scene could get in contact with Gennady himself and maybe through the assistance of an interpretator have Gennady give his OWN thoughts on the Ward fight. I'm sure if you asked him yourself, Gennady would be honest and contrite, he would tell you that he will eventually fight Ward because that is a legacy fight... but he's not ready right now.
