Johnson fight

Okay,if being motivated was really the reason why go through a Glencoffe Johnson, I would've just gone straight to a 3rd fight w/ Tarver which would've made alot more money".

Jones wanted the belt for a unification bout with Tarver.The first fight with Tarver was close but Jones won in my eyes, the second fight Jones was looking good and won the first round and until he got ****y and backed into the ropes, dropped his right hand to his hip was winning the second.This last fight he looked indifferent to the fight and let himself get swarmed and outworked but up until the ko Johnson wasn't landing anything damaging just outworking RJ.Then he drops his left to his hip this time and **** gets nailed.To fight any pro fighter you got to be into it and on your game or your gonna get nailed,anyone can get ko'd if they take it lightly and I believe that is what happened.Roy showed spurts of his old self and his hand speed was still there, he just looked like he was gonna ride it out and get Johnson out in the latter stages but underestimated Johnson and got nailed.I want one more fight with Roy's alter ego RJJ showing up before I write him off, I hope its at LH I think he has unfinished business there.If Roy's health is in danger as some are saying due to being dropped hard in tarver1 (he got up and beat the count) and ko'd in Johnson than Mayorga should retire yesterday for the punishment he took saturday.I've been waiting for a few years for the old Roy to show up maybe this will be what it takes, if not than I wish him well in retirement.Two fights at the end of a career do not a career make.

Jones issued a statement yesterday, here it is if anyones interested :

Jones knew the obvious question before it was even asked: "Do I quit?," he asked himself casually. "Well, of course quitting ain't the right word for one. But two, I'm not a quitter so I can't tell you that. Off top the way I look at is I know I need a break from it because my body's been going through a lot. Know what I'm talking about? I've sent my body through a whole lot to make history. I had to almost sacrifice myself to make history when I won a heavyweight title. To come back down was a very difficult thing for me but at the same time I had things I said I would do and I tried to keep my word and do what I said I would do. So I came down and did that. Now since winning the heavyweight title everything has else has been just like - I got up for the heavyweight title. I haven't been up like that no more. And until I can get up like that it'll be best that I stay out of the ring because until I get up - what you going to go in there for? I tried to go back for the fans. I tried to go back to just do it but it's not the thing to just do it. This is a killer game. This is a killer sport. You know where I'm coming from? And it's not safe to just do it because you feel like people want you to do it. So if I don't have something to get me up from now on, to make me really, really go again I'm just going to take it easy and commentate and do what I do."

Jones, who gained titles in four weight classes, was untouchable for the better part of a decade. But after winning the WBA Heavyweight title from John Ruiz, Jones has had very limited sucess since returning to 175 lbs. He struggled to gain a close decision over Antonio Tarver last November, was knocked out in their rematch then was knocked out brutally again by Johnson.

Does he feel two consecutive knockout losses will ultimately affect his legacy? "I ain't ever been the one to worry about no legacy no way," he responded, laughingly. "When I was doing what I was doing before I won the heavyweight title, which I aspired to do, nothing could stop me until I got where I wanted to go. So they see it, as they want to see it but when I was hungry, in the hunt for what I wanted, nothing could stop me."

Interestingly, if Jones does decide to return, he probably will not return to Light Heavyweight." I don't know. I might move back up. I'm not really sure yet. I can't make that call. I'll make that call when I'm ready to make that decision."

Still, Jones (49-3, 38 KO's) points to lack of hunger as the main reason for his loss. "I know I don't have it now. I did what I wanted to do. If you hit the lotto you don't go to the store and play the numbers as hard as you played them before- you already hit the lotto. The loss is because I'm not hungry. When you're hungry you got to see everything that comes across your plate because you might not get to eat no more. When you're full, you can pass a few meals." But then again, you can wait a few hours and the hunger can return.

So does Jones think he has the ability to regain his hunger for ring combat? "I could. One thing will help me regain the hunger is because I know me. And I know who I am. I'm going to take a little time off. I know how competitive I am. I know my mind will go in there and say 'OK, I'm ready now'. And if that happens I'll be ready and if it don't then I'm just going to chill. But I know it's coming."

I've been a fan of Roy Jones but at the same time I am highly critical of him especially the ungrateful, *******t and BULL**** remarks,excuses, what have you that he has been sayin' in the press. Twospeed 99 you haven't been gettin' the point I'm trying to get across. Let's just say we all buy Jones's b.s. about not being motivated, I mean if you were to be in RJJ shoes with his skills in that same fight with Glencoffe Johnson, I mean wouldn't you have had a sense of urgency to do something when you are trailing that big against a guy you are suppose to walk all over(Jones slept through the whole fight).... Jones doesn't have any fighting skills, and f**k all these Jones nuthuggers using the excuse of Jones slowing down because of age, although I agree he has slipped but not a whole lot and it really is such a poor excuse cause the last two guys he has faced are either the same age as he is or at the most a year younger than Roy is, so Tarver and Johnson ain't exactly runnin' at the same speed when they were in their mid to late twenties. I have to agree though and I didn't like the idea when I first heard of Jones coming down from Heavyweight to Light heavy, I obviously don't know if it was brought up in the negotiations in the 1st Tarver fight, but I would've done it at a catch weight of 185 or 190. If Jones does decide to make a comeback with a rematch with either guy I'd have it be at a higher weight, but still the weight was not what got him knocked out it's the fact that Jones is so fundamentally flawed and that is what got him clocked TWICE!
