James Toney wasn't even heard of back then.. he was not a recognized or known amateur. Littles and Liles were the 2 favorites of USA Boxing

Littles and Liles were much more accomplished and Frank had beaten ALL THREE of them, (he beat Tim three times)

Liles is pretty under-rated really, he was the Lineal super-middleweight champion. I remember when Nigel Benn had four options to choose from for a date in February 1995 - either his mandatory contender Michael Nunn, a unification bout with Frank Liles, a light-heavyweight challenge against Virgil Hill, or a defence against Gerald McClellan. Liles was hardly mentioned at all because his name was too small, Benn wanted Nunn but Don King told him that he'd be the favourite against Nunn whereas he'd be the underdog against McClellan - so Benn chose McClellan because he felt he needed a challenge (after the lacklustre display against Giminez). But I just remember Liles was hardly mentioned. I think he was abit overlooked as a pro.

****ing hell, I just found that Liles had a 285-14 amateur record.

Didn't James Toney ever go to National Golden Gloves? Because looking at his bio he did win Michigan State Golden Gloves.
