Hard to say but I think Ward has enough speed and experience to keep away from the power of Kovalev by standing in close with him instead of being at the end of Kovalev's punches with momentum behind them. I don't see Kovalev being effective in close quarters against someone like Ward.

Stevenson did nothing to earn a shot against Dawson. Kovalev is much more relevant in the search for a title than Stevenson was before he shocked us.

dawson however was coming off the worst performance of his career, stevenson was supposed to be a tune up. stevenson didnt deserve to fight dawson but got a lucky break due to the circumstances.

few fighters get that lucky, how often does a world champion move down in weight, get knocked out, move back up and defend his title in a tune up fight?

stevenson is on top of is game, he isnt looking for no tune up fight he is looking for the best. atm hopkins is clearly a more worthy challenger than kovalev, as is pascal and even dawson for that matter and stevenson kind of owes him a rematch considering the circumstances of their first meeting.

they might all have lost fights, but only against fighters better than anyone kovalev ever fought and the same thing goes for their wins. they simply competed at a higher level, kovalev should at least get his feet wet at that level before fighting the main man of the division.

thats all he needs though, one fight. but at this point kovalev hasnt fought a single top 5 175lber, i dont care if he knocked everyone dead in 2 seconds, he doesnt deserve to fight the #1 guy when he hasnt fought anyone in the top 5 and you got a legend like BHop out there still murking fools. its about who you beat first and foremost not just how you beat them.
