Comments Thread For: CompuBox: Gary Russell Jr. Picked Tamayo Apart

Super-talented Gary Russell Jr. took apart the game Tamayo with every punch in the book, highlighted by a vicious body attack. Russell has all the talent in the world, the question is, when will we see him again and will it be vs. a championship caliber opponent.

This guy needs to step the level of competition or at least fight more regularly

Clearly this Russell kid has skillz but this was mismatch from the negotiating table! How long will it be before Golden Boy put this Gary in with some stiff competition? Of course he will look great against a guy like that!

It was just a stay busy fight for his WBO mandatory challenger.

I wonder if he's gonna wait Gonzalez out? That fight needs to happen imo.

Seven, eight other guys picked Tamayo apart before Russell. Why is he still fighting nobodies, when he's so talented?

LMAO!!! Russell (while I have nothing against him) probably doesn't survive against a live dog! Seriously, I think his skill set is better than Fortuna's but my money would be on Fortuna if they were to meet today. This kid Tamayo probably would have been gone by the second round if it was against Fortuna. So, there I said...Fortuna would have Russell for breakfast and that's probably because Russell is not active enough and his competetion of tomatoe cans and cab drivers is not helping him at all. Get it together Russell or you will be spanked the f-out when you face someone like Fortuna!

Russell Jr. reminds me of Howard Davis Jr. Good skills but hasn't developed the strength to go all the way. I think he needs more time and experiance before making the leap.
