  • Comments Thread For: Victor Ortiz-Luis Collazo: BoxingScene Staff Predictions

The stateside boxing scene gets a rare treat – a relevant fight on a weeknight.

That’s not to say that the winner of tonight’s showdown between Luis Collazo and Victor Ortiz becomes the man to beat in the loaded welterweight division. That said, there is plenty that awaits the winner of the scheduled 10-round main event at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York (Thursday, Fox Sports 1, 9PM ET).

Collazo is very underrated. He definitely won against Hatton and Berto in my opinion. The only reason why he lost those fights is because he did not have the promotional money machine to back him, nor the momentum and fame due to the fact that he's a humble NewYorican.

I think Collazo comes in very motivated and does enough to keep the weak minded Ortiz guessing and not countering. The Mayweather and Josesito loses will affect him psychologically. Ortiz will have massive ring rust as where Collazo last fight was three months ago..... Collazo got this.

Interesting picks and analysis. I liked Donovan's take since it sums up my exact thoughts.

"There's never any telling which Victor Ortiz will show up, much less one who hasn't fought in 19 months. Assuming he's at full strength, this seems like the type of fight where Luis Collazo is once again forced to play the bridesmaid role. The decision will be disputed in some circles, but the end result being Ortiz reemerging in the welterweight mix."

Collazo has never been stopped, not even by Mosley. Victor at this stage in his career has a lot to prove if I'm going to believe he's the one that can stop Collazo. All four of his loses are by decision. What about Victor?

I can agree with that too because Victor just has to do enough to win while Collazo has to do more then enough to win.

Since most of boxingscene's staff picked Ortiz, it's fair to say that Collazo is going to be victorous in this match up. The majority of boxingscene staff predictions are almost always wrong.

That's pretty accurate. I'm still rooting for Collazo.

I'm gonna say something dumb and cliched - WARLAZO lol

I have a feeling that collazo is going to get screwed in this one..

He has all the tools to pull of an upset, but i think he has no chance on winning on the scorecards, plus i can see them giving ortiz a quick stoppage the first time collazo is hurt or staggered, especially if collazo is being competitive

Collazo is a tricky, veteran southpaw who has been active going into this fight. Ortiz is really going to have to show something if he's going to beat him.

This is a really tough fight for both guys, a good fight as well. I'm leaning towards Victor, but Collazo winning wouldn't surprise me in the least.
