from my understanding the last time he was injured they removed the damaged area of his ligament and scoped his knee. I'm not exactly sure the extent of this injury but considering the rehab time (something like 9 months) he probably completely blew out his MCL and they probably just used an Achilles tendon from a donor to replace the ligament. if they did that his knee would be a lot stronger. they did that when they reconstructed Carson Palmer's knee in the NFL. Martinez might be almost 100% for the fight, well as close to 100% a 39 year old can be

I'm sure somebody has the details to the extend of his injury. I'm just guessing
All the articles say it is a torn meniscus. Still, how bad of a tear must it have been to require 9 months of rehab?

Aside from the fact that I think every guy in the NFL is on super roids, those guys were still relatively young. Sergio is nearly 40 now and it was the second surgery on the same knee, it is not going to be stronger. Tommy John surgery for baseball players is the perfect example of coming back stronger but all those guys get that surgery done at a very young age now. That's a huge factor, I'm taking Cotto because he's the better technical boxer which is the ideal way to beat Sergio's style, and I think Sergio is well passed it. A long lay off, coming off injuries, aging and that aging is a not good for his type of style.

Good luck..,but this is far from easy money in my opinion.martinez is injury prone and no matter how many times hes fixed his acl mcl or wutever injury sustained to his knee,it will always be susceptible, especially in a fight of this magnitude...that being said cotto was supposed to be shot years ago and has resurected his career to the point where it makes this fight interesting to the fans.if cotto gave the great mayweather a tough fight, better believe cotto is gonna put it on the injury prone martinez, and if martinez is a pound for pound top 10,he will need a dominating win which is highly unlikely to me...

              Sweet Revenge!

"Maravilla" wanted to get at Cotto for years. Now he gets his chance.
The revenge factor is real. Cotto snubbed Sergio for years. From Welter, to Jr. Middle.
I guess Cotto thinks Sergio is finished. A shell of a fighter who has no legs, and easy to hit. Be real careful what you wish for, because it will come to you twice fold.
This also goes out to GGG, & FMJ......
This cat's not finished, he has rage & heat for both of you!
I hope he get's GGG 1st. Shut him, his front running fan base & talking media heads up....
GGG has yet to see anything like a healthy "Maravilla". He will show him why his was the fighter of the year, and at one time the most feared fighter in the game.

I think it should be a good fight. But if I was a betting man, the way negotiation was going and I think Cotto got everything he wanted. Martinez might have one more great fight in him. It's prolly gonna be a small ass ring Martinez is 39 and will prolly have to mix it up. Roach got that mean left hook back into gameplay for Cotto. Love both fighters but I think Cotto gonna eventually get Maravilla up on those ropes and have the ref stop this one. Martinez wothout his movement and speed with no room, that fight with Murray was a real close one and Murray was supposed to be a tune up. Martinez wants at least one more payday. Cause it was gonna be PPV with Cotto or no PPV and get slaughtered by GGG. I'd fight Cotto 2.

They won't be fighting in a rainstorm, Sergio will hopefully have a good knee, won't have a broken hand and when Cotto feels that first left hand land flush, he will know the reality of the situation he is in.

The reality being that he's about to be demolished in front of his fans. Last fight, Martinez had a damaged right knee, broken left hand, and injured left shoulder, as well as a wet canvas. Martinez will have had almost a year to heal by the time training starts. Cotto doesn't realize what he is up against.
