Comments Thread For: Hopkins Sees Shumenov as Credible, Still the Next to Lose

Bernard Hopkins expects to face fellow light heavyweight titleholder Beibut Shumenov in the coming months. He spoke with BoxingScene.com on Jan. 24.

BoxingScene.com: The last time we spoke was before Beibut Shumenov’s fight against Tomas Kovacs. What did you think of Shumenov’s win over Kovacs?

Hopkins: “Credible. A guy that you got to take serious and not look at his record and dictate in your head and your mind that it’s a sparring match or an easy fight. For me — I can’t speak for any other champion in the division — I take everybody serious. More now than ever, and I always take everybody serious because of where I’m at in my life and what I want to accomplish in my life. [Click Here To Read More]

if hopkins becomes undisputed LHW champ at age 50, it will be very interesting to debate where his spot in boxing history will be over the coming years

Looking forward to this fight. At least these 2 are unifying and if Stevenson/Kovalev fight in August or so, then the winners could fight each other by the end of the year. Which would be great for boxing. No matter who you like or dislike. One thing for sure which we can all agree on, Hopkins is the king of the talkers of the LH division for sure.

Sad watching Hopkins try I build this guy up. Credible? What's credible about taking 18 months off and still being a champ? Nothing is good about this guy.... Nothing!

He might find him credible, but the boxing fans do not. Beibum Shumenov is by far the weakest Champion. There are contenders that I believe could humiliate Shumenov if they got the chance. Brahmer is one of them, and Pascal is another.

I like Hopkins, I think he's the most complete of the LHW's. But he's not fooling anyone with this fight.
