A major step was taken towards drug reform in the boxing industry on Monday afternoon, when The Association of Ringside Physicians (ARP) decided to tighten up standards on seeking exemptions for testosterone replacement therapy (TRT).

Their new limit: next to zero.

The ARP -- whose headquarters are in Chicago -- have agreed that there is no place in the sport for the****utic use exemption (TUE) for testosterone, save for extreme circumstances. Ha, I get what you're saying... but Bey actuall will be happy. He's against treatment of any kind and - as I mentioned in the story - was f'd over by the doctor, who even documented Bey's refusal for any treatment that would result in a failed drug test.

That said, I have a feeling a lot of fighters will begin to get caught once commissions actually implement standards. Either that, or fighters just won't be as good (my money is on the latter).

Peterson didn't even apply for a TUE until he got caught which is a clear breach and his testosterone wasn't anywhere near what would be considered medically low.

He was just straight up cheating.

33-1 refers to the ratio of testosterone and epitestosterone in the body. Epitestosterone is an inactive epimer of testosterone which produced in similar quan****** in most people.

The T/E ratio test is an outdated and cheaper way to test for exogenous T. The idea is when u add T to your body there won't be additional E so the ratio will rise.

A normal ratio is about 1.15:1 but some people naturally have much higher ratios up to around 5:1 but that's very rare.

Because of this, athletes are allowed to have a ratio up to 4:1 without failing.

The reason this test is outdated is that athletes can take T and get a boost and stay just below the 4:1 and you can take E to keep the ratio down anyway.

A much better but more expensive test is a carbon isotope ratio test, which can find even small amounts of artificial T because It's made from plants rather than natural steroids such as cholesterol. As plants have more C13 carbons than are found in natural steroids, there is a higher ratio in the T.
