Comments Thread For: Stiverne Talks About Moving on From Don King Lawsuit

This past November, heavyweight contender Bermane Stiverne filed a lawsuit against Don King, alleging violations of the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act. That lawsuit was settled in December, with Stiverne remaining in promotional relationship with King.

BoxingScene.com caught up with Stiverne on Jan. 25 to ask him about that relationship.

I don't get why any fighter would even entertain the idea of signing with Don King after the reputation he has built. He has no connections in any of the two biggest boxing networks and he is one of the most despised figures inside the boxing world.

He is lucky this ordeal didn't took place back when Don used to put mother****ers to sleep for this type of stuff.

I dont understand why anyone would sign with don king

you know you will only fight the bare minimum, maybe a fight every 12-14 months, he cant land you any big name fights,,, you will be stuck fighting eliminators in foreign countries, you wont make any money,

I see no reason why anyone would sign with king

Don King is notorious for offering fighters money to settle their lawsuits against him. The sad thing is that the money he flashes at them is much less then what they would get if they stayed patient and saw the lawsuit all the way through to the end.

            to set it straight,
            1) it is always better for a fighter to settle the differences than to wait out the contract because a fighters window is small and the promoters have ample time, while you wait your ranking slips etc..

2)Don King built up both networks as far as boxing, so to say he has no connections with either one is wrong. Don King is old he is not as active and he did everything - micro manager - its hard to do everything at 82 years old, but let Stivern get a belt and see what his old ass does..

Dohn puts deals together just about better than anyone in the game, h just has not had the product to showcase

this is it... he is nearing the end. he really doesn't have much interest in anything other then a HW belt... he dominated for decades but he is just moonlighting now...

Stiverne looked like that lil French boy's bodyguard yesterday. He was intimidating me and I don't even box. I reckon Arreola is in big trouble in little Haiti... well BIG Haiti

Sigh.. I hope King doesn't ruin Stiverne. Should have got out of the contract at all costs.
