Washington, DC - Lamont Peterson (32-2-1, 16 KO’s) and Dierry Jean (25-1, 17 KO’s) kicked off the 2014 boxing calendar with an action-packed aggressive showdown. Jean began with a patient approach, looking to test the chin of Peterson after his devastating knockout loss last May against Lucas Matthysse. By midway through the fight Peterson made it clear that loss had no affect on him as he became the aggressor, putting on a show for his hometown crowd. As the fight progressed Peterson outworked and outlanded his opponent using combinations, speed and agility. At the end of the fight SHOWTIME Sports analyst and former World Champion Paulie Malignaggi emphatically stated, “Lamont clearly proved that he is still a force to be reckoned with at 140 pounds.” The judges scored the bout 115-113, 116-112 and 118-111. I can't help but like Peterson, I'm from the DC area so I guess that helps. He always comes to fight and I know that whole ped thing was bad but he just doesn't seem like that kind of person that used with the intent of having a advantage. It seems he genuinely believes in his abilities, I could be wrong. All that aside he put on a great show last night, Saludos de Alexandria, va! -
Both fighters look impressive physically! Peterson looked good on his combinations to the body, and Jean looked like if he gets to fight more experienced fighters like Peterson, he could become one of the future champions of the division, as soon as all the big names from 140 grow up the weight to 147. Peterson won a case for a future unification vs Danny Garcia. It would be a hell of a fight, but a give Garcia the edge with a late stoppage or a close decision. We have to see how Peterson absorbs those Garcia's left hooks to the body and to the chin. Peterson will also go to the body, which will make Garcia box a little more from the middle rounds on, just a little less like he did against Matthysse, since Peterson has power, but not as much as Matthysse. I think it will turn out to be a classic, maybe fight of the year!Comment

Fight was just ok, nothing special here. Peterson loses as soon as he fights another legit threat, not a deer in headlights.Comment
